No-Man Love You to Bits |
I was cautious when I first heard about the record and the previews didn't sell me on the premise at all, but listening to it, it's unmistakably a No-Man record and keeps most of the band's trademarks intact. The long compositions end up working in the band's favor and the result is a grandiose synthpop symphony with small hints of disco sprinkled over it. Recommended for fans of No-Man's earlier albums, such as Flowermouth or Loveblows and Lovecries. |

After a decade of prog exploration, Opeth remembers they were a metal band and not a folksy prog tribute band. Much better produced than Sorceress and much more cohesive than anything they've made since Ghost Reveries, this album plays to Opeth's strengths without seeming like a step backwards and without sounding like a pale recreation of the past, as their past 3 albums did. It has that dark and sinister vibe which has been sorely missed from their music lately and thus becomes the best record from their prog rock era. |
