5.0 classic
Jeff Buckley Grace
hehe 'whining or droning in a tuneless fashion'. i suppose if people can't feel the passion in those amazing high pitched cathartic screams then its their business.
the reason jeff is such an amazing singer is not that he can just hold a tune like countless other people, but rather that his voice has many dimensions. he can go from singing softly, to belting it out high or low, screaming, crooning, haunting falsetto, his voice sounds almost feminine at points, it's very ethereal and timeless.
and, at times, he is overbearing, which is exactly one of the main reasons why i love him and this album. he just belts it out and i can feel that so much, its very daring artistically, i think, for someone who could just sing sweetly and nicely all the time if he wanted, to singing more nasally or at such a high pitch that it can grate on some people to convey an extereme mood that he wants to.
anyway. classic. love it.

edit: this is music for adults who have a passion for life and for love, and for genuine emotion.

I love this album. I understand that some older fans are disappointed. The vocals may be a little more restrained at times, but Matt's voice still sounds amazing on this record, and being an older fan myself I just simply don't agree with the mediocrity some people are putting on this album. There's no Hysteria or Plug in Baby on this album either, and very few epic piano parts. Having said that, the new influences they do include are fantastic and fit in with their sound so well, and make sure they don't just keep on sounding like every other album.
Personally I think it's their most consistant album to date, and considering all the varied influences that is quite an achievement. Fact is; bands change their sound a little and people moan about it. Dosn't change the fact that this album is very good.

This album is easy listening for Radiohead, for sure. Right now, on the first day of it's release, I'd place it above Pablo Honey and Hail to the Thief, without a doubt. Other than that, I'm not sure where it stands next to Radiohead's 4 best albums, but only time will tell that. Theres defiantely some classic stuff on here.
At the moment, I'd say the rocky Bodysnatchers and the shortest track were possibly the weakest, but I'm enjoying listening to both.
The main thing is, Thom sounds fantastic on this release. Some of his best vocal work to date, his voice is so ethereal even without all the effects of past releases.

I refuse to give it a rating after not even 24 hours, like everyone else seems to be. It's absurd. I will say that I really enjoy the general feel of the album though, and some of the standout tracks are I'm enjoying individually already. This is not a disappointment in the slightest.

After having the album since just before it's release and given it time to sink in and have many listens over time I've concluded that it's a great album. I think that all the tracks on the album are overall at least worthy of 4/5 ratings, shortcomings being possible uninteresting sections in the huge tracks, but given the length of the music, the good far more than outweighs the bad. And direction and focus being lacking is one of TMV's traits, which might be nice to see reigned in a bit for the next release, but it's also one of the reasons why I like them so much. Two tracks disappoint, namely, El Ciervo Vulnerado, which I find to be very boring, unlike it's sister-track Vicarious Atonement which has far superior melodies and textures to back up the slow ambient style of the track. The other letdown for me was Asilos Magdalena which I think they could have made into a much better track than it ended up being. It's too long for what it is, and... the song simply dosn't gel with me. I can listen to it, but I don't enjoy it all that much. So 6/8 ain't bad, right? Thats 3/4 of the album I consider to be excellent. It's not TMV's opus, but it's an excellent album that sits well in their catalogue, I can't wait to see what comes next!

Yeah, I couldn't be as harsh to this record as some people are being. It's "ok", simple as. It's not a terrible record, theres just not a whole lot to get all that excited about. It's not groundbreaking or life changing, and most of the songs arn't too memorable, but Creep a couple of other songs are listenable every now and again.
To give this a 1 or a 2 would be like saying theres something terribly wrong with it, and thats not the case, this album is about as good (or better than) most trendy pop-rock bands release today.
