Death Symbolic
In my humble opinion, the most substantial, timeless, and essentially perfect metal albums in the history of the genre are Metallica's Master of Puppets, Megadeth's Rust in Peace and this, Death's almighty Symbolic. I highly, highly doubt metal will ever get better than this.

Trivium The Sin and the Sentence
This album holds a pretty special place in my heart, so there may be a degree of bias here. I vividly remember sitting in a waiting room, waiting to be called in to see my at-the-time councilor. I had a single earbud in my left ear, and I was carelessly scrolling through my recommended videos on YouTube, trying to find something new to listen to, to pass the time and to potentially liven the mood for my own sake. I came across "The Sin and The Sentence." The thumbnail caught my eye, and I decided to say fuck it and give the track a try. Quite frankly, it sent a chill down my spine. The almost epic soundscape that that song provides through the mostly simplistic melody lines and the anything but simplistic drums made me crack a smile. Watching the music video, although I shouldn't compose my personal views on music off of music videos, made me feel like a child constructing his own definitions on what he considers to be "cool." Needless to say, the secondary earbud was soon in and the volume was all the way up. I have since listened to Trivium's entire discography, and I can say that this is far and away their best album. Other than the title tack, The Revanchist, Thrown Into The Fire and Beauty In The Sorrow absolutely steal the show. A solid effort by Trivium,

Far and away better than Opeth's previous effort, but still far and away from their best album. If Opeth combine the melodies found here with the essence of a Blackwater Park or Still Life, they may just be on the way to creating another classic.

Slayer Reign In Blood
There are far too many forgettable tracks here for me to regard this as the classic that so many consider it to be. However, tracks such as "Raining Blood", "Angel of Death" and the two short but sweet arrangements in "Piece by Piece" and "Criminally Insane" maintain my personal interest. Reign in Blood isn't the meat and potatoes of thrash metal, It's simply the potatoes; enjoyable for a while, but eventually leaves you craving something with more flavor.
Tenacious D The Pick of Destiny
Trivium In Waves
Trivium Silence in the Snow
Whitechapel Mark of the Blade
Bring Me Home had the most substance behind a Whitechapel song up to this point, and Elitist Ones is a needed slap to the face of the "gatekeeper" fans of metal per se, but there isn't much beyond that that makes Mark of the Blade an overly rewarding listen.

Calling an Opeth album average hurts my heart but this really isn't anything special at all. I
can't even remember the names to any of the tracks, and you probably can't either. Again, I
paraphrase, calling an album by Opeth average makes me the big sad.
