5.0 classic
Akercocke Words That Go Unspoken...
A progressive and modern Death/Black classic that provides all the aggression, catchiness and beauty any discerning metalhead could ask for.
Dodheimsgard A Umbra Omega
Delivering five lengthy tracks that are all stunning, this demented masterpiece transcends Black Metal from what sounds like the confines of a psych ward.
Faith No More King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime
Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues
Everything about this record is utterly beautiful: Instrumentation, vocals and vocal harmonies, songwriting, lyrics, packaging and album art. Pretty much perfection.

The quintessential and best Seattle Grunge album, but it's so much more than that.
System of a Down Toxicity
I still remember the excitement I felt when I heard Prison Song for the first time. And how that excitement never waned throughout the duration of the record. It's playful, passionate, philosophical, angry, infectious. I'm still excited about it to this day.
The Beatles Abbey Road
The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Devil's Blood The Time Of No Time Evermore
Not quite sure how to even describe this satanic, psychedelic, melodically rocking masterpiece. Just indulge in the towering guitar work, gorgeous singing and masterfully crafted songs.
The Smiths The Queen Is Dead
The Weakerthans Reconstruction Site
Aside from the songwriting, the incredible instrumentation, arrangements and lyrics really stand out here. It's all peaks, no valleys. Short, but oh so sweet.

Akercocke Antichrist
Akercocke Choronzon
Monstrous in scope and ambition and almost entirely successful, Akercocke knocked it out of the park with this one.
Arghoslent Galloping Through the Battle Ruins
Sure, the drummer brings the slop and the production isn't great, but these flaws can't overshadow the infectiousness of the brilliantly melodic riffs and compelling songwriting.

Rage Against The Machine Rage Against the Machine
Refused The Shape of Punk to Come

Baroness Yellow and Green
Be'lakor Vessels

Cannabis Corpse Tube of the Resinated
Album's totally badass, funny and even better than most of Cannibal Corpse's recent output.

In terms of compositional skill, this is an extremely overrated record.

Portal ION
One can't help but respect these folks for the ingenuity with which they approach music and lyricism, but their output continues to leave me - I suppose ironically so - largely indifferent.
Pyrrhon Abscess Time
It’s not bad per se, but I struggle to find anything engaging on this record.
Queens of the Stone Age Lullabies to Paralyze
Queens of the Stone Age Era Vulgaris
Has quite a few awesome passages, but it?s too quirky for its own good and terribly inconsistent.
Raging Speedhorn Hard To Kill
It took them this long to make a record this short, uninspired and unmemorable? Doesn't bode well.
Ramones Ramones
Rome Flowers From Exile
Serocs And When the Sky Was Opened
The musicianship is there and then some, but the songs just never seem cohesive or sufficiently interesting.
Serpent Column Endless Detainment
I guess he’s trying to evolve his sound, but this is just way too noisy and chaotic for me.
Skinless From Sacrifice To Survival
Sodom Genesis XIX
Spirit Adrift Enlightened In Eternity
Utilizes some of the most lazy and overplayed progressions in all of Metal and the singing is lacking compared to, say, Grand Magus or Khemmis, both of which I'd listen to over this any day of the week.

Xibalba Tierra y Libertad
YOB Atma
YOB's worst album isn't super bad, but pretty boring and it should've been titled Jizz Moon.

2.0 poor
Abbath Outstrider
Abominable Putridity Parasitic Metamorphosis Manifestation
The band effortlessly make 24 minutes feel like an hour.
American Football American Football
Blood and Sun Love & Ashes
Bloodhound Gang Hard-Off
Boards of Canada Geogaddi
Bolzer Soma
Already a massive step down from Aura, this stuff is just flat out boring.
Bolzer Hero
A mixed bag containing individual tracks and moments that could be described as good and interesting, but it's all dragged down by meandering non-riffs and boredom. The lyrics teeter the same edge of kind of good and annoyingly stupid: Pillars of oak fuck the hymen of Ego, OK buddy.
Cattle Decapitation Death Atlas
No good riffs, annoying vocals, largely unsuccessful songs.
Cult of Luna Somewhere Along the Highway
No idea what people see in this band. To me it's just a copycat-affair and it's boring, too.
Cytotoxin Nuklearth
Daughters You Won't Get What You Want
I've never been a fan of noise and despite the hype that made me check out this album I could barely find anything on here that made me wanna revisit my opinion.
Deafheaven Sunbather
If this record has taught us anything it’s that Indie Rock and Black Metal don’t go together. Beyond overrated.
Disgorge Consume the Forsaken
Occasionally impressive riff salad devoid of redeeming qualities such as atmosphere, structure or songwriting.
Eisbrecher Liebe macht Monster
Fear Factory Digimortal
Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation Wallow
Frozen Soul Crypt Of Ice
Hard to make an album that's not boring when you're constantly recycling your own riffs, which other bands have used to better effect before. Sure, no one is completely original these days, but this is so uninspired, derivative and entirely uniform that I can't enjoy even the occasionally effective usage of beatdown riffs.
Husker Du Zen Arcade
Inquisition Black Mass for a Mass Grave
Similar bands: Gary Glitter, Lostprophets
Internal Suffering Cyclonic Void of Power
These guys are all chaos and destruction and little to no actual discernible substance.
Kadavar (DE) Rough Times
Has two bangers on it and the rest is so fucking dull you can't help but wonder where those two other tracks even came from.
Kataklysm Serenity in Fire
Features mind-numbing primitivity and an onslaught of gravity blasting, but is largely devoid of the melodic flourishes that made its predecessor an engaging listen.
Khruangbin Mordechai
So We Won't Forget is great, the rest is mostly inexcusably bland and boring garbage.
Killer Be Killed Reluctant Hero
King Crimson Discipline
Knorkator High Mud Leader
Lamb of God Sacrament
They've always been a one-note sort of band and with this album their shtick began to get seriously old.
Lamb of God Lamb of God
Lantlos .neon
Low I Could Live in Hope
Really dull and samey album that closes with an ill-fitting cover of "You are my Sunshine".
Machine Head Supercharger
Machine Head The Burning Red
Megadeth Dystopia
Metallica Death Magnetic
Mgla Age of Excuse
In terms of material, it's pretty much a rehash of previous efforts, except this time it's not catchy and goes nowhere.
Neurosis Fires Within Fires
Features some of Neurosis' most dreadful moments, it almost feels like a saving grace they clearly didn't have enough ideas to make a record of sufficient length for their standards.
Odious Mortem Cryptic Implosion
Space Anus is the most memorable thing about this incoherent mess.
Pallbearer Fear and Fury
Peste Noire Peste Noire - Split - Peste Noire
The album actually features one very good song, Aux Armes, but the rest of the Black Metal is uninspired and bland. The second half of the album plus the lyrical content and imagery aren't even worth speaking about.
Pestilence Resurrection Macabre
Whoever told Mameli a good chorus consists of shouting the song's title 32 times? There's a handful of decent-ish riffs here, flush the rest down the toilet.
Portal Vexovoid
Public Enemy It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Putridity Degenerating Anthropophagical Euphoria
Queens of the Stone Age Villains
Ritual Howls Into The Water
Rivers of Nihil Where Owls Know My Name
Sightless Pit Grave of a Dog
Some pretty vocal stylings from Ms. Hayter here and there, but other than that this record is a whole lot of almost nothing.
Sigur Ros Takk...
Slint Spiderland
They tease a great passage occasionally, but then just go straight back to building to climaxes that never arrive. Considering its acclaim, this is mind-numbingly boring.
Slipknot Iowa
Talking Heads Remain in Light
The Hellacopters Rock And Roll Is Dead
Well, there’s one great song on this record, so it ain’t all bad.
The Locust Plague Soundscapes
The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground & Nico
Why this is highly regarded is completely beyond me, it sounds like a pack of junkies that ran out of heroin. I'd rate this lower if the site let me.
Therapy? A Brief Crack of Light
Titus Andronicus The Monitor
Tocotronic Pure Vernunft darf niemals siegen
Tombs The Grand Annihilation
Nothing offensively terrible, just a really boring record.
Totenmond Unter Knochen
Ween La Cucaracha
Weezer Pinkerton
A dumb as fuck and super annoying record full of awkward choices and songs that never gel. Has like one and a half great tracks though.
Wintersun Time I
An overlong cheesy mess that absolutely wasn't worth the wait.

1.5 very poor
!T.O.O.H.! Democratic Solution
Akercocke Renaissance in Extremis
The band sound like they've found god and that's a terrible thing. Jason, what possessed you to write this life-affirming nonsense?
Behold... The Arctopus Hapeleptic Overtrove
Props for being very different, I guess, but this shit is pretty much unlistenable.
Broken Social Scene You Forgot It in People
Celtic Frost To Mega Therion
The riffs and progressions on this thing border on the amateurish and make it obvious there were pretty poor musicians at work here. The lead guitar and "atmospheric" flourishes (synths, female vocals) drift into comedic territory. This has aged poorly and is difficult to take seriously from today's perspective, although with the novelty factor stripped away it might just be fair to assess that this was never any good in the first place.
Coal Chamber Coal Chamber
Corey Taylor CMFT
Dark Angel Darkness Descends
This album is considered a classic why? All they're doing is trying to play really fast and they're not even good at that. Needless to say all the songs are total unmemorable wank.
Deftones Deftones
This album has Chino wailing about a lot after ten bong hits, but it doesn't have any good songs.
Demolition Hammer Time Bomb
Gorillaz Demon Days
Green Day Father of All Motherfuckers
Incubus (USA-CA) 8
James Blake Overgrown
Metallica Hardwired... to Self-Destruct
Overlong Dad Metal that's being recycled for the umpteenth time. Bland, irrelevant, unnecessary.
Paysage d'Hiver Geister
This is for you if you enjoy listening to the same boring, basic and badly produced progressions/riffs for a whopping 70 minutes.
Satyricon Satyricon
Limp-wristed, misguided and filled with cringey lyrics and songs that have no spark whatsoever. It's also the antithesis of heavy, both in terms of production values and actual material.
Satyricon Dark Medieval Times
Slough Feg New Organon
The material is either rehashed, boring or both and the production values have deteriorated into amateurish territory. This band has gone downhill fast.
Sufjan Stevens The Ascension
Stevens moves further away from Indie and has become soulless and criminally boring as a result.
Weezer The Black Album
Weezer Van Weezer
Hopelessly overproduced and all kinds of lame and cringe.

1.0 awful
Bolt Thrower Realm of Chaos
Has no right to be held in high regard. Completely primitive riffage, sloppily executed.
Cryptopsy The Unspoken King
If the attempt of trying to pander to a mainstream audience wasn't unforgiveable enough, then it's the horrendously awful music contained in this recording.
Deafheaven Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
Prepubescent throwaway Indie Rock riffs stretched to 15 minute songs.
Devourment Butcher The Weak
I guess I could get over the utterly despicable lyrical content of this album if the music wasn't as ungodly terrible, braindead and primitive as it is.
Golden Ashes (NL) In The Lugubrious Silence Of Eternal Night
Offensive to the ears, all that’s discernible are awful sounding synths. What the hell is this crap?
Lana Del Rey Chemtrails Over The Country Club
The whole record plods along in the same aimless and sedated manner with occasional forays into aggressively awful territory (White Dress).
Machine Head Catharsis
Machine Head Civil Unrest
Manic Street Preachers Futurology
Reminiscent of German Schlager Pop, this is extremely unappealing stylistically and just flat out unpleasant to listen to.
Mark Morton Ether
This is unbelievably terrible, literally couldn’t stop laughing.
Metallica St. Anger
The album is so bad it makes Load and Reload look like god's gift to mankind.
Morbid Angel Illud Divinum Insanus
A crime against music by one of Metal's most overrated bands.
Pig Destroyer Head Cage
A band that was known for releasing twisted and deranged material made an album that's more Hot Topic than Grindcore. Goddamn, this sucks.
Six Feet Under Nightmares of the Decomposed
Sounds like a practical joke the rest of the musicians are playing on Chris Barnes, who is simply too far gone to realize.
Thy Art Is Murder Human Target
This band is complete garbage, but that cover is unreal sick!
Weezer Pacific Daydream
A nightmarish abomination of sugary, EDM-laced Pop Music tripe.
