Who knew a fusion of classical and jazz composed like an Ambient album would turn out to be a potential masterpiece!Fruit Bats The Pet ParadeNatalie Merchant Keep Your CourageI can't believe how slept on this album is. It's near perfect baroque pop. Harrowing and soothing. The Lemon Twigs Everything Harmony4.0 excellentAriel Pink Dedicated to Bobby JamesonChelmico FISHINGGRMLN Laughing ShadowSo damn good. Can't believe this album didn't get more attention last year.Tame Impala The Slow Rush3.5 greatAaron Frazer IntroducingI honestly thought this was a covers album at first, but these seem to be originals so I'm genuinely impressed at the overall quality and performances. Early sleeper hit I think that some may come back around to before year's end!Ariel Pink With You Every NightBlack Country New Road Forever HowlongSite ate my review as I posted it, lovely. But yeah, the hate this record is getting is a bit overblown. The change in direction while keeping the BCNR name gains understandable confusion, but the scorn is ridiculous when most of the band remains the same. On the record itself, most of the tracks are good with Cold Country and Nancy beings the highlights but the production feels way too clean at times and the weaker songs, like Mary and the title track, have no balance between vocals and instrumentals and should've been cut. Hell cut the 3 weakest tracks and this record could've gone into a 4/5 territory for me. There is potential here, but they should change the bands name if they want to stay poppier and baroque-ier cause it'll just make the hardcore fans equate BCNR as the next Mercury Rev in terms of direction shift-related anger.Black Dresses Forever In Your Heart"Pussy like a bulldozer...like a blown out speaker." 10/10 lyrical writing paired with 10/10 cover art. Probably the best thing I've heard from Black Dresses yet even though I wish the vocals were a bit stronger at times as they can come off as lazy in tracks like Heaven and Tiny Ball. The first 3 tracks, Zero Ultra, (Can't) Keep It Together and We'll Figure It Out are especially good and then there's a tiny fall-off from there, but overall it's definitely one of the strongest albums I've heard in 2021 so far.Earl Sweatshirt Some Rap Songs3.0 goodWeezer Van Weezer2.5 averageThe Black Keys Let's RockThere are some solid tracks on here that hit a similar quality to some of the better tracks on albums like Attack and Release and Thickfreakness but the overall album feels unfocused and boring. No real originality in the music as has been the case for Dan and his band for the past decade.U.S. Girls Heavy Light
