There is however, a noticeable change in tone from previous records. Against the Odds has a much more powerful punk/metalcore influence than they've shown before. While pop-culture still remains a popular subject matter (Xenomorph Blood, Prince of Saiyans, The North Remembers) it's presented in a much more serious way than the prior albums. This is not by any means a bad album, but the future could show this to be a turning point where Crisix left their juvenile thrashy style behind. After revisiting it though, it's clicked with me. It's still not as easily digestible primarily due to the average song being 36% longer than the last album and featuring more progressive elements, but I think ultimately I'll come to love this record as I did it's predecessor. Debut LP of the world's first Cum Metal band. Vocally and musically strong, but the lyrics are often too cheesy for me to enjoy, or to phrase it in a way more consistent with the tone of this album "The smegic phallus erupts forth an odorous putridity melting the soul from the olfactory down". While the excellent vocals and instrumentals warrant a listen, I don't foresee revisiting this album due to my issues with the lyrics. I will however check out their next release - no pun intended - in the hope they can maintain their excellent musicianship in a more mature record.Gyorgy Ligeti AtmospheresOminous, Unnerving, ... Some fun songs on here to be certain, but a poor showing by annihilator's standards.Annihilator Schizo DeluxeI feel like the hate for Padden was somewhat undeserved on the last album. While his performance wasn't spectacular, the main problem for me were the lyrics. However, the situation has flipped on this album. The lyrics aren't nearly as bad, with some songs being pretty damn good, but his performance undermines the song's potential. The prime example of this is Clare, where the lyrics and music are perfect ingredients for a killer song, but his performance brings it down a few notches. Overall a slightly better album than All For You, but still fails to capitalize on most of its potential.Annihilator For the DementedAnnihilator MetalAnyone giving this a 1 would rather get high off the scent of their own farts than approach an album with an open mind. There are definitely problems here. The drum tone is unexciting, the vocals sit in an awkward spot between rock and metal, and the songs tend to wear out their welcome. But is it an awful album? Absolutely not. Not only is this slightly below average at worst, it's not even the worst offering from Annihilator. Anthrax Spreading the DiseaseProduction quality hurts this one a lot, could have easily been 3.5, maybe 4.Arrayan Path Dawn of AquariusHighlights: So It Shall Be Written, She Who Is Primordial Wisdom, Dawn of Aquarius. Excellent vocals and guitar, but the songwriting is boring just as often as it is gripping. An over reliance on choruses that aren't particularly catchy, and a tendency to simply sing over music rather than create a sense of unity prevents this album sustaining the heights seen in some tracks. Guardian Angel exemplifies the issues on this album, a fantastic performance but underwhelming composition lead to a feeling of greatly missed potential. That's not to say the lyrics themselves are bad, simply the composition. Lyrics alone however, do not a song make.Artical Illusion XHighlights: Wings of Time, Illusion X. Great vocals and instrumentals marred by occasionally sloppy writing. "I Am So Different" is the most obvious example, with lyrics so cheesy I developed type 2 diabetes after a minute of listening. However, when Artical buckle down and focus on a track, it's phenomenal. The title track exemplifies the successes of the album. Solid - if not revolutionary - guitar work, but vocals and drums leave a lot to be desired. Strings sound good, but the rest of the mix feels thin. I think it's primarily the vocals that hold this record back; instrumentally everything is good, but I really just can't get behind the vocals. Jeff's always been a good songwriter but whatever estrogen supplements he was taking to write 'The One' clouded his brain since the lyrics on this record blow. It doesn't help that the vocals are mediocre as well, though not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Lyrics mostly range from underwhelming to embarrassing. This whole album feels like Jeff and Co. going through the motions. Even on a bad day Annihilator don't put out pure trash albums, but this is probably as close as they've gotten. Maybe better than All For You, but definitely a low point. Thankfully this idea was abandoned for the rest of the EP. Love Simulator and Everything Was Perfect are great tracks, but the overall record is substantially hurt by the inclusion of the first couple songs.AWITW She Walk Alone う者姻AWITW Temptations EPAWITW TimelessAWITW TNGHTAWITW Without YouAWITW CloserSongs with Sergi Yaro flow well enough and he has a nice voice, but the songwriting is very poor. So far I've been very unimpressed with all the rappers that have had verses on AWITW songs and 2Nick8 is no exception. The Instrumentals are alright, but not enough to save the album.AWITW MirageOnly track that stood out to me was Remember When.AWITW Funkadelic SessionsSeems to have been scrubbed from the internet and I can't figure out why because this isn't that bad. Songwriting isn't great, but the vocals are mostly solid and the instrumentals are good. Only tracks that really grabbed me were Circles and Give Me Love, primarily for the vocal performance.AWITW ContactDug Rogue One DX and Odyssey but nothing else grabbed me.AWITW Arcade SummerMost of the songs are too long for how little variety they offer.bLiNd AirgliderReally liked the ethereal singing on the opening track but the vocals on later tracks didn't really do it for me. Solid rhythms, but I would've liked to see more melodicism.bLiNd MagicLiked Magic and Decepitconned but found the other tracks dull.ChainsHeart Leaving Planet HellGeneric heavy metal with touches of rock. Nothing stands out as particularly bad, and nothing stands out as good either. While this surely has an audience, I'm not it.Counterparts The Current Will Carry UsDamokles Bring Out The FunkHonestly not that bad, but felt too repetitive and I didn't really love the vocals.Diphtheria To Wait For FireHighlights: I believe, As Darkness Casts Its Veil, Sleeping With the Worms. Every aspect of this album is inferior to later efforts by the Leptos brothers. Vocals, instrumentals, and songwriting feel under developed. All elements here are sufficient and none of the songs stick out as being particularly awful, rather the entire album is homogeneously meh. As Darkness Casts Its Veil is an exception, and serves as the high point of the album. While there are some fun riffs and impressive vocal sections, the majority of 'To Wait For Fire' is an exercise in patience.Hubrid AUTO-DISSECTIONMost of the remixes don't add much to the source material, and most of the originals aren't especially gripping.Levinsky Electra ComplexLogic Young, Broke & InfamousLogic Young SinatraLogic Young Sinatra: UndeniableManhatten Blue Sky GirlSolid vibes but most tracks go on too long. If this were tightened up it would probably be a 3.Metallica St. AngerMobile Deathcamp Clear and Present AngerRecommended Tracks: Field General, Earth Metal, Vocal Assemblage. I to want like these guys, really I do. They bring a lot of energy and they're trying to stand out by including Native American elements in their music (see Uhyusti). The problem is, that this doesn't translate well into their actual music, which sounds generic throughout the album. Compared to "Summon the Destroyer" this is less musically entertaining, but has more elements of their unique Native American spin. If they could better combine their values with the music while introducing more creative songwriting and riffs, they have potential to be a very entertaining band. Until then, they'll stay a boring generic ball of potential.Mobile Deathcamp Summon The DestroyerForgettable generic thrash. Not bad, but nothing you haven't heard before. When one of the most memorable tracks is a Devo cover, you know there's a problem. Production is less than stellar as well. Recommended tracks: Deferred Pilgrimage, Freedom of Choice, Exhaustion.New Arcades Returning HomeFound the instrumentals boring, and only 2 of the tracks with vocals grabbed me. Singer has a good voice, but felt that the music and production was lacking. Solid potential and I wouldn't be at all surprised if later efforts were more refined.Sellorekt/LA Dreams BellaDonnaFav track: Are you still here. Run of the mill Synthwave. Would have given a 2.5 if not for the absolute aural assault that was Jovian. I don't know if it was a mistake in the export, but the super high volume combined with the grating instrumental made it literally painful to listen to.Sellorekt/LA Dreams The Adventure BeginsFav Track: Wings of the Phoenix. The titular adventure must be the same one referenced in every 20 year old girl's tinder bio. Brings nothing new nor exceptionally crafted to the table. Perfectly competent composition and sufficient production, but honestly an unexciting release. Some enjoyable bits (bass in No Holding Back, backing melody in Am I dreaming, main melody of Wings of the Phoenix). None of the tracks here are unpleasant so I feel less than a 2 is unfair, but this can easily be skipped.Sellorekt/LA Dreams PhasesLiked the first track but everything afterwards felt too similar.Sellorekt/LA Dreams The Digital CultureSellorekt/LA Dreams VelocitySellorekt/LA Dreams Paper ObjectsSellorekt/LA Dreams MagicSellorekt/LA Dreams A Perfect WorldSellorekt/LA Dreams InsomniaSellorekt/LA Dreams Avenue ElectricWrote a long fucking soundoff that got deleted by needing to sign in when i hit submit. Long story short, not bad but repetitive.Sellorekt/LA Dreams MarathonMost songs feel too repetitive. Could have been fixed by shortening most songs, or increasing the variety of melodies.Sellorekt/LA Dreams CoastSellorekt/LA Dreams A Teen RomanceShadows and Mirrors LevelsFav Tracks: Deathbed. Plenty of good ideas here but it feels like a bunch of rough drafts rather than refined tracks. I like the singer's voice, but I don't think his delivery fits the instrumentals very well. That really takes away from potentially great songs like Ridgway, Breeder, and Becoming. While this is separate from the music, I will say that the physical design of the album as well as the art are kickass. I absolutely love the cover art.Thug Life Thug LifeTrinakrius IntrospectumGreat instrumentals, but the vocals lag far behind. A completely different vocal style, or a vocalist who can put more power behind the current style would vastly improve this album.1.5 very poorAnal Cunt Fuckin' AThe only thing this album is good for is proving that Anal Cunt can't make a good record even when trying.
