Just come across these guys and they are amazing and provide everything I need in Post Rock. In fact, I much
prefer this to the So called giants of the genre, the forefathers that set the foundations for the genre such as God
Speed, Explosions, Mogwai etc. I much prefer the offspring such as these and Caspian and If These Trees Could
Talk. I find them far more engaging and powerful. |

| So glad they didn?t ruin their legacy with a lame return. Production and mixing are wonderful, album really shines on headphones. Ticket purchased for London in October, last time I saw them was 1991! Need to spend more time with the album now, only immediate negative observation is a total lack of psychedelic lead guitar weaving in and out, I do miss that element for sure. But the atmosphere here is a winner regardless. |

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cutting it loose, hot on the heels of Grinderman. Sure it lacks some of the
emotional depths of other releases but such a good time listening to this. The last time they had a band party
considering the next 3 that were to follow that in effect castrated the Bad Seeds leaving Nick with highly personal,
introspective spoken poetry over Warren Ellis minimal arrangements - which has its place for sure but just not a
journey that I particularly enjoy |

| Remove Jane, Mercy Me and Kings of the Prairie - and you have what o would consider to be as near as perfect a Pixies album that you could expect coming some 33 years after their peak. Best reunion album.rBest female vocals since Kim. Looking back without feeling overly reductive (Doggerel) and looking forwards that actually works (unlike Eyrie). Sure it lacks the frenetic pace they once could bring, and a tendency to settle into mid tempo - maybe it?s unfair to even expect too much else at this point in their life. What they do here they do it very welll. Great production too. |
| PJ Harvey Rid of Me |
| PJ Harvey Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea |
| PJ Harvey I Inside the Old Year Dying |
| first listen done while walking the dog through sun dappled woodland - probably an ideal setting. This is Intricate, rnuanced, layered, subtle, experimental. The last two albums always had too much to derail my listening experience. This rone feels like it delivers on every level for what a 53 year old Polly Jean Harvey could offer me. This feels like the natural rsuccessor to White Chalk. I am actually totally shocked how much better this is than I was expecting. There were plenty rof moments when the twists and turns of the music just really caught my attention. I suspect this is only going to rimprove with every subsequent listen. I fully accept the punk angry young PJ is long gone and we have those albums to rcherish, but as a representation of her new voice and music this is spot on. |

| Despite expecting a disappointing album based on the review and comments I actually found this very meditative and calming, and quite a rewarding listen albeit in a very subtle and understated way. Its slow swell, its tribal rhythms and ritualistic vocal delivery all converge to bury their way into your subconscious. Maybe lacking in some excitement and variation, but it is also a refreshing change from the pattern established with the previous three albums, with no 20+ minute epics to endure. I think this will likely only get better for me. |

Only problem with incorporating synth wave, I find the line between euphoric cheese overload and genuinely
emotionally overpowering to be a very fine one. On the whole they manage to stay on the right side of that line.
On first listen I think I still prefer the previous two albums. Problem is I’m also a helpless sucker for beautiful
synth wave as when it’s done right can be so dark and brooding, yet exhilarating at the same time, so this album
does hit a sweet spot for me. |

| Dirge going full on drone ambient. Stripping away all the metal and leaving the bare bones of their sound. Interesting experiment and glad they felt the need but it?s a kind of okay once, acknowledge it then leave it kind of music. |

| After the first two tracks which I really enjoyed, it all feels a little insubstantial and at times whimsical, and dare I say tired and I feel it just drags along. Something is missing and this feels like lower tier JR. I think it suffers from being far too strait laced and lacking any real personality compared to the subtle atmospheric textures of Spectral Lines or the energy of Fever Breaks. |

| Matthew Halsall Into Forever |
| Matthew Halsall is probably my favourite contemporary jazz musician so it pains me to say that this album left me feeling very unsatisfied. I guess he went for a very particular atmosphere with this one; it feels very concentrated with little in the way of his usual explorative and spiritual music. the inclusion of vocalists also sets this album apart from his others. There is an emphasis on the drums which lay down some gentle rolling beats, which gives the album more of a soul feel than jazz. Good in its own way but not really for me unfortunately. |

| rThe biggest musical disappointment in living memory. I was expecting to be blown away having read lots of reviews. I have just finished my first listen and I am flummoxed as to how bad this album is. The music is just bland and all over the place, I felt physically agitated listening to it as no sooner was I beginning to feel something it jumped somewhere else, then again and again and again. The compositions just don?t offer any emotional heft, there is no melody, nothing memorable in the guitar parts. And the WORST vocal performance he?s ever done. Those cleans are the embodiment of the worst crimes committed by prog - those overly-theatrical deliveries that plague a lot of prog. I love prog but this is just a mess. I finished my first (and last) listen without a single positive thing to say. I thought ICV was a great leap forward- but this - I?m lost for words and never thought I could feel this way about an Opeth album |

The 3 is for the 3rd disc only. What a wasted opportunity. A load of half baked sketches at under 2 minutes long. Or just
vocals from one track mixed with the music from another track. For a pair of albums as good as these they surely
deserved a better deluxe release than this. I was hoping the 3rd disc would be as relevant and important as IR disc 2. Or
at least some more fleshed out songs that give us a better idea about how the band were developing new ideas. For
what it?s worth I do actually like the versions of spinning plates, fog and true love waits. If You Say the Word is a great
addition to my collection. Follow me should have ended after about 3 minutes. Overall, I was expecting brilliance but got

| Swans The Beggar |
| Swans Live Rope |
| Disc one is likely the top candidate for the worst 77 minutes of Swans I?ve ever listened to. Formless, rambling, pointless variations of noise. No journey, no narrative - just found myself very bored throughout. Disc 2 redeems itself only slightly with renditions of The Hanging Man and Cathedrals of Heaven. Both great performances. But Away and Birthing found me listless and irritated again. Just all feels like style over substance and although you can?t call this an era - but The Beggar and Live Rope would go right at the bottom of my Swans rankings. I for one am delighted that a new era awaits with MG declaring the big sound ends with the next album. The long songs here just don?t have the heart and soul of the epics on the trilogy - and while that might be the point and they are going for something else maybe merging that aggression with drone staying fairly constant rather than peaks and troughs - I just find it all very uninspiring. |

| The Orb Pomme Fritz |
Pomme Fritz and Bang Er N Chips easy highlights for me. The rest is pretty uneventful and forgettable. The remixes
however make for a much better album. 3.2 for the album, 4.3 for the remixes. |
| The Orb Bicycles and Tricycles |
Definitely a stronger album than Cydonia. But it?s all over the place and feels like such an anomaly in their discog. It just
doesn?t sound anything like The Orb. If I listen to it and ignore its them then it?s a better album for it. But as an Orb
album it lacks any real magic. |
| The Orb Prism |
First two tracks just too slick for their own good with no real Orb personality, ghetto love story very average, Tiger is
plain bloody awful, the tracks Picking Tea and Dragon are fine but far from top tier Orb dub journeys, Beginning of the
End has a UFOrb feel about it and easily the standout track for me, Recycled Times sees orb go D&B and it?s not half as
bad as that sounds - very reminiscent of early Hospital Records sound although the last 5 minutes could have sounded
less tedious and pointless - just needed something a bit more spatial, spacey to close out the track. Last track is fine as
a beatless closing track. |
| The Smile A Light for Attracting Attention |
| The Stone Roses Second Coming |
| The The Ensoulment |
I have quite a few misgivings which harm my overall enjoyment of the album. It?s all too much one paced, very little
variation in the songs, and he?s limited himself vocally (age no doubt) so most of his vocals are spoken, whispered or
half sung. And that really robs the songs of any excitement or emotional heft. The album hasn?t wandered too far from
the template of Dusk. Maybe with repeated listens it will reveal more. |

Argh! Those strings. A real anomaly this album set against a fantastic comeback and string of superb albums between
1975 and 1981. Living Legend, The Trip, No Limit, Among Friends, Art Pepper Today, Artworks, Straight Life and So In
Love. I think they even overshadow his 50?s and 60?s output for raw emotion. |

High expectations quickly crushed. Much like TKOL RMX, albums like this make me question the definition and
purpose of the word REMIX. I think often times that Interpretation is a more accurate word for albums like this.
Producers/artists are of course free and perfectly entitled to produce their version as they see it, how the song
speaks to them and how they wish to change and morph it into their own musical language. BUT, that doesn?t
always translate well into an actual enjoyable experience, especially when taking on an album that?s universally
loved and celebrated as a classic. Big responsibility and a horde of fans with high expectations. Most of these
songs are so far removed from the original source as to be totally unconnected and providing no connection for
the listener, and furthermore aren?t actually that interesting even in their own right. There are a few that for me
hit the mark, but I can?t see myself coming back that often. Personally for me this is a massive missed
opportunity. And I’m not adverse to reinterpretations per se, take Aphex Twin’s remixes of Saint Etienne and
Curve. Almost no observable link to the original song yet amazing songs nonetheless less. |

| It pains me to say it but they haven?t been relevant or interesting for decades. 1999?s Middle of Nowhere was the last great album. I remember the green album coming out and having a real album from an electronic artist. The Brown album, Snivilisation and In Sides were and always will be absolute favourites of the genre. I am as fanatical of those albums now as I was then. But sadly, as other peers like Underworld, Future Sound if London, Chemical Brothers all moved with the times and released (to varying degrees) good, solid or excellent albums - Orbital lost their way and sadly never found their way back again. An album this far in a musician?s career chock full of colabs just smacks of them being tired and empty. I know that?s likely an unfair and overly harsh take. But the music here is not that good, the only good bits are just regurgitating old sounds. There is nothing here to come back for. I don?t mind being so hard on the boys because they have already provided me with 6 classic albums. |

| Soen Memorial |
| What the hell happened to this band. I mean they were never going to break down barriers and push music to new realms, but I enjoyed Cognitive. Moreover I have Tellurian 4.5 and Lykaia 4.0 - they were both great albums that I still enjoy today. There was also a lot to enjoy in Lotus but by then, with no development, change or experimentation in their sound, they now sounded tired and that made Lotus a bit of a chore overall. I wasn?t surprised to then see Imperial as a complete nosedive into mediocrity. Well, Memorial has somehow managed to continue this trend and be even worse. You know it?s a warning sign when the only tracks that stand out are a cliched duet (Hollowed), standard-level Soen rockers (Incendiary). And a few more power ballads to boot (Tragedian and Vital). The first 4 tracks though really dig a grave that there?s no way out of. So bland, so unremarkable. r |

| Another set of unremarkable but enjoyable yet entirely forgettable mid tempo atmospheric rock songs. For me they peaked with Tightly Unwound and Someone Here Is Missing. After these albums I was expecting great things. Unfortunately they have been drifting in their comfort zone which, tragically, brings no excitement or bite to their sound. These last 5 albums I enjoy while I?m listening to them but they lack any real substance or depth. |
