Had Had
My favorite album of all time. I have not heard good stuff like this since the early 90's. Even better than the best 1990 classics, such as Obituary Cause of Death, Morgoth Eternal Fall, Death Spiritual Healing, Morbid Angel Altars of Madness.
Krisiun Black Force Domain
Necrophobic Darkside
Necrot Mortal
Necrot Lifeless Birth
Obituary World Demise
Obituary Cause of Death
Obituary Slowly We Rot
Obituary The End Complete
Origin Omnipresent
Origin Chaosmos
In line with all the other albums from one of my favorite bands. It strikes me as very similar in sound to 2014's Omnipresent, which is my favorite album from Origin. This one is a solid 4, but I am giving it a 5 because it is simply disgusting to see rock bands like Skin Tension and Kardashev all the way up at the top of the list, while this solid death metal album is all the way down at the bottom.
Ossuarium Living Tomb
Psycroptic Ob(Servant)
Psycroptic The Watcher of All
Sanguisugabogg Tortured Whole
Sentenced Shadows Of The Past
Suffering Hour In Passing Ascension
Suffering Hour The Cyclic Reckoning
Suffocation Human Waste
Suffocation Pierced From Within
Suppression The Sorrow Of Soul Through Flesh

4.5 superb
Creeping Death Boundless Domain
Best album of 2023. Finally a death metal album on this Sputnik Death Metal list. Can you believe it?
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Devourment Obscene Majesty
Dischordia Triptych
Incantation Onward to Golgotha
Krisiun Mortem Solis
It's going to be hard to top the classic Black Force Domain, but Krisiun is reliably consistent and Mortem Solis is very much in line with the rest of its excellent discography. Why change a recipe that works? This should overtake Imperial Triumphant's Spirit of Ecstasy as the best Death Metal album of 2022 so far. Get that Kenny G metal out of there!
Marduk Panzer Division Marduk
Portal Vexovoid
Curtain is possibly the coolest music video I have ever seen. The video is very similar in style to Phil Tippet's "Mad God" movie. All the other Vexovoid songs are very catchy and very dissonant at the same time... This album is absolutely amazing.
Undergang Døden læger alle sår
This is soooo heavy. Very low, slow beats with monotone ultra deep death growls (somewhat similar to Demilich's legendary vocals). Just the way I like it.
Wormed Krighsu

4.0 excellent
Abominable Putridity The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin
Adramelech Psychostasia
Artificial Brain Artificial Brain
Benighted Identisick
Cosmic Putrefaction Crepuscular Dirge for the Blessed Ones
Cryptic Shift Visitations from Enceladus
Dust Bolt Trapped in Chaos
Gruesome Twisted Prayers
Gruesome Fragments of Psyche
Immolation Acts of God
Inhuman Condition Fearsick
Excellent classic death/thrash with awesome production and extremely talented members in this underated band. Super Terry Butler keeping Death alive while Jeramie Kling chants with Vader-like vocals. Classic formula with a fresh sound. "Fencewalker" and "King Con" left me speechless. Inhuman Condition is basically a continuation of Massacre.
Napalm Death Resentment is Always Seismic...
Nile The Underworld Awaits Us All
Obituary Dying Of Everything
I have been listening to Obituary for over 3 decades, so obviously I wasn't going to let this one pass. I am happy to see that they are still true to their roots and haven't tried to "progress" like everyone else by adding clean vocals and soft instrumentals everywhere. There is nothing cutting edge here, but it works and it is quite good. In fact, this album seems better than most of their recent works. Happy to see Terry Butler on bass! Not an instant classic like Slowly We Rot or Cause of Death, but still, massive respect to Obituary.
Pyrexia Sermon of Mockery
Schizogen Spawn of Almighty Essence
Very solid death metal Ukranian release that really impresses without having to resort to any gimmicks. Technically it sounds very similar to Necrophagist, but with much lower tones and much less happier mood than say "Onset of Putrefaction."
The Berzerker Dissimulate

3.5 great
Demilich Nespithe
Gruesome Dimensions Of Horror
Origin Antithesis
Origin Unparalleled Universe
Portal ION

3.0 good
Druid Lord Relics of the Dead
Aside from a couple of filler tracks, like "Nightside Conjuring" and "Ethereal Decay" the overall album is OK if you are into ultra slow, doomy death... very similar to Ossuarium and Tomb Mold, but not as good.
Esoctrilihum Consecration of the Spiritus Flesh
Hath All That Was Promised
NAILS You Will Never Be One Of Us
Portal Avow
Verberis Adumbration of the Veiled Logos
Very slow and melodic metal with repetitive riffs. Reminds me very much of Watain, but just less flamboyant and much slower overall. It's an accessible black metal sound which should appeal to a wider audience, but it is not bad.

2.5 average
Blood Incantation Absolute Elsewhere
Decapitated Cancer Culture
Deicide Banished By Sin
Imperial Triumphant Spirit of Ecstasy
Sonum Visceral Void Entropy
A bit gimmicky for my taste. The intros have violins, electronic organs, trombones, and trumpets to set the "evil" mood. But, evil doesn't last very long and already on track #2 it becomes clean vocals. By the time it gets to song 8, "Desolation," it has already morphed into an instrumental love song. What happened?

2.0 poor
Allegaeon Damnum
Hooded Menace Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration
Psycroptic Divine Council
Psycroptic has always been a mixed bag for me. While Ob(servant) is one of my favorite albums, the rest of their discography is really just OK. This latest one makes overuse of choir, which ruins the whole thing for me. It seems like a fusion of church music and death metal at times.
Wormrot Hiss

1.5 very poor
Ulcerate Cutting the Throat of God

1.0 awful
Aeternam Heir of the Rising Sun
Very sad to see melodic alternative rock at the top of the Death Metal charts again. Sounds like the Friends TV show's intro song, but with an occasional church choir intro. Check out the full album on youtube.
An Abstract Illusion Woe
Between the Buried and Me Colors II
Dir En Grey Phalaris
Dir En Grey is a perfect balance of 80% K-Pop and 19.5% Marilyn Manson, and 0.5% metalcore (like Korn).
Esoctrilihum Funeral
Kardashev Liminal Rite
Kostnateni Úpal
Ne Obliviscaris Exul
Persefone Metanoia
Shapeshifter (JPN) Dark Ritual
Skin Tension Omni
