Amon Amarth Fate of Norns

A true masterpiece of Prog Metal, Jorn Lande's best performance ever and not less than a true classic. A flawless 5.0!

Brainstorm Metus Mortis
Bring Me The Horizon Sempiternal
Bury Tomorrow Cannibal
Children of Bodom Hate Crew Deathroll
Dark Tranquillity Character
For sure, the best Dark Tranquillity album of all time. Couldn't be better, it's just a masterpiece.
Eluveitie Slania
Folk Metal with Melodic Death Metal, combined in perfect form. My first song by Eluvieite I ever listened to has been "Omnos", a big mistake, cause I thought for a quite long time "What the hell, what is this? This is supposed to be Metal??". But luckily, I finally discovered this album, and yes, a perfect symbiosis. Heavy, melodic, emotional, perfect! Still a reference.

Brainstorm Memorial Roots (Re-Rooted)
"Memorial Roots" is perhaps the most controversial album of Brainstorm, mostly because of its rather weak production. Perhaps even Brainstorm themselves recognized this and re-released it as "Memorial Roots (Re-Rooted)". And yes, the production is far better and on top, there are 4 bonus tracks which all have a real high quality level (and are not just some average fillers). All in all, this makes "Memorial Roots" suddenly to one of Brainstorm's best releases ever. Definitely a good decision to re-release this!

Darkwater Human
"Human", the first album for 9 long years by Darkwater and the first since "Where Stories
End" does many things right. It sounds much more grown up and much more varied than its
predecessor. It would be far too much to go into details here, but it's a great melodic prog
album, definetely worth listening to it.

It is their weakest output. No question. But still a good one, in my opinion. There are some good songs and some mediocre ones. The production lacks a bit of punch and espacially, more neck-breaking parts like the ending of 'Back of My Mind' are surely missing. I like the message of the album, though, and again, it's not a bad Metalcore album (a bad Metalcore album is BMTH's latest....thing, whatever :D ). So nothing ground-breaking, definitely worse than 'You Are We', but still quite enjoyable. But far aways from a classic, too.

After a very first run of listening to this album, all I can say so far: It's not that easy. There are only a few "more simple" passages which rest in mind, everything else is quite progressive and does not become accessible at once. It's a beast of an album, perhaps Evergrey's most progressive approach till now. Maybe, after more runs, the music becomes more accessible. If so, I might correct my rating - to the better then.

Nightwish HVMAN. :II: NATVRE.
Less Metal - more Nightwish....Wait, what? But yes, exactly this seems to be the case here.
In my opinion, Tuomas was always able to produce nice orchestral, symphonic arrangements, but
he was never the best to produce good metal songs. On "HUMAN. :II: NATURE", this is very
obvious. The riffs are like already heard one thousand times, the drums are mediocre at best
(although Kai Hahto is capable of so much more...). The album has indeed some nice moments
(espacially Noise, Shoemaker and Pan). I even would have rated the
"first" part of this album with a 3,5, but what is the second part supposed to be? A movie
score? Was Tuomas a bit too often outside and just recorded a tweet here and a lapping there?
This is just not interesting at all. But since this is also a part of the whole album, I
can't go higher than a 2,5 rating. This means, this is the poorest Nightwish album for
me of all time. I fear, "Once" will stay the best Nightwish album - forever. A quite big
disappointment.

Battle Beast No More Hollywood Endings
Heading straight towards pop - too much for me. Kabanen proves with Beast in Black that this can be done better. Though the latter also play music which is cheesy af, it somehow can be called "Metal" at least. But "No More Hollywood Endings" just sounds exactly like this - Hollywood pop which doesn't hurt anyone, and which is even cheesier.

Dream Theater The Astonishing
Engel Abandon All Hope
Well, I abandoned all hope now...Their weakest release, couldn't be called "Metal" anymore. A big disappointment.

In Flames I, the Mask
So, this album seems to contain two different parts: The first 4 songs and the rest. Whilst the
first 4 songs are really good and would deserve 3.0 or even 3.5 points (Mr. Friden is even
screaming again here), the rest quite sucks (except "Burn", which is good again), starting with
"Follow Me". The second part even offers some quite nice riffs from time to time, but at the
latest, when the chorus begins and/or Mr. Friden starts to sing (and we all know this isn't a good
sign), well, then the next song is dead again. Best example for this is "Deep Inside", which
starts groovy with a very nice riff, but the chorus destroys it completely. So, mathematically
said, 5 songs which are good (3.0 points) + 7 which are not so good (1.5) and everything devided
through 12 gives a rating of 2.0. Sorry guys, again, this is just poor.

Jordan Rudess Wired for Madness
Highly technical, but also brain melting and confusing. Too much for me.
MaYaN Dhyana
Too much of everything, no sound structure, too many voices; the predecessors suffered from the
same in some way, but were still better. This one is too much for me.

Feels incredibly outdated. Poor production quality, too. They should have released it 15 years ago and not now.

It's mainly noise. Not even good noise. No song structure at all, no melodies, nothing. Again, just noise. Not my taste.
