After hearing and loving 1992 Deluxe at the end of last year, I was excited to see whatever Princess Nokia would come up with next. This project was moderately interesting at first due to its radically different approach to its style compared to 1992, but a lot of it underwhelmed me due to some of the production and the lyrics, which seemed incredibly simple. There are still some great moments on here, most notably "Little Angel" and "Look Up Kid" and a few that are alright like "Flowers and Rope," but a lot of the tracks are forgettable or poor. "Morphine" sounds like a Post Malone song that isn't very good, and "For The Night" is probably my least favorite track- as it's easily the most forgettable. As a whole, I like the acoustic direction of the mixtape, and Nokia's singing voice isn't bad. A Girl Cried Red has some highlights, but it only sounds good if you're not paying too much attention to it. |
