While I loved some of his early records, his later fare I found to be grating and a tad superficial. However, this new release has won me over once again. A collection of great songs that have the vibe of a gritty Philadelphia summer, Vile and his band have stirred up a cocktail of bitter and sweet gems that are both refreshing and intoxicating. Served up on a platter of long hair, denim and an existential lust for life, this album has been on constant rotation (ON VINYL) in my house since its release.Parliament Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo SyndromeParliament TrombipulationParliament Mothership ConnectionParliament The Clones Of Dr. FunkensteinParliament Motor Booty AffairRyan Adams PrisonerAnother masterpiece from the inimitable Mr. Adams. Rebounding from his overlooked (but quite masterful) album of Taylor Swift covers, "Prisoner" finds Ryan in his element as a unique songwriter. As with all of his best work to date, this album's big theme is heartbreak. But his loss is our gain. His much publicized divorce from Mandy Moore must have been the fuel that ignited this fiery and robust album. From the record's title track to tunes like "Doomsday" this album reaffirms my belief in the artistry and poignant composition skills of my Ryan.Shy Boyz 2 Horses (and 2 Naked Boys)Ween Chocolate and CheeseWeen Pure GuavaWeen The MolluskWeen Quebec4.5 superbThe War On Drugs Lost in the DreamThe War on Drugs never cease to impress. Lush synthy arrangements and Dylan-esque vocals collude to create an ecstatic and utterly new sound. The depth and poignancy of the lyrics are astounding. I can no longer listen to this record in the car because I'm liable to tear up and cause an accident. Their new record drops in 2 months and I CANNOT WAIT. I've seen these guys live on multiple occasions and they are just as tight and resplendent live as they are on record.
