Bring Me The Horizon Sempiternal
Bring Me The Horizon POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR
even as a massive amo apologist, this is far and away their best work since sempiternal, and perhaps even just as good as it (albeit for very different reasons). love the industrial elements and the overall blend of their newer, more refined songwriting with their heavier sound. absolutely fucks.: after hearing thed versions of Parasite Eve and Ludens, I'm upping my score to a 5. idk if it's TRULY a perfect 5 for me, but it's closer to that than a 4.5 for me. AOTY.

so typical of sputnik to see a metalcore album FINALLY getting praise and its users immediately retaliate with their ?ACKTUALLY? ass reviews/soundoffs. this music is damn good, metalcore may be stale as a genre in general but this aint one of THOSE albums, stop acting like it is one. albums like this are rare. edit: yeah this is for sure a 5, upping the score

I actually really enjoy this, it?s far too short (especially considering how long the lead up to this release has been), but I think this is miles better than Retrograde. First single was good, second wasn't at all. Cautiously optimistic yet kinda hesitant about this one.

EDIT: this is not a truly bad album by any means, but it lives up to its name. It has no true identity

mixtape or a showreel than a coherent album.

Volumes Different Animals
A really great album with some fantastic lyrical content and songwriting, only moderately sullied by one fairly uninteresting and uninspired song (obviously Left For Dead.) I don't hate the song, but it should've ended with Pullin' Shades, that song is such a fantastic closer.rOverall though, production, performances, writing, flow and diversity of sound are all fantastic here. Perhaps I'm biased since these guys have been my favourite band for a long while now, but I think this is a great addition to their already impressive (if short) discography.
Volumes Coming Clean
A step up from Different Animals in the songwriting department for sure, Myke Terry is far better utilized as well. However, the production confusingly feels a bit squashed compared to previous releases, which doesn't make too much sense because of Diego's production chops. Either way though, aside from a pretty unnecessarily long interlude track, every other track on here is super solid.

went back to listen to this because i liked their new one, and it's... not great. super fun guitar
and drum work at times, but vext's lyrics are chronically bad and the copaganda shit does not fly
with me. production is also a little rough, but still serviceable.

quite a few skips here, and the good does not outweigh the bad, but the good /is/ there, make no
mistake about that. the bridge in better the devil and all of truth or dare are pretty fucking
sick. onto their next one in a bit, hoping it's at least a bit better.

edit: upping this to a 2.5 for the instrumentals alone, they're really fucking good.

Of Mice and Men Defy
So far this sounds like a genuinely less interesting version of Nickelback's last effort. Boring production, weak tones, samey vocals, an awful cover of Pink Floyd's 'Money,' generally just a poor effort to hold on when they should probably let go. Hardly even a husk of what they used to be, not looking forward to this.

Sleeping With Sirens Madness
Suicide Silence Suicide Silence
The Amity Affliction Let the Ocean Take Me
The Amity Affliction Misery
Way better than their last 2 records in a lot of ways, but still falls flat on its face in a lot of others. Since I'm not really a fan of this band I don't really have the wisdom to say whether Amity fans will love or hate the change in sound, but this is a huge step in the right direction for the band (the right direction being not making the same album but progressively worse 4 times in a row). It's a different, better sound for the band, but it's still not quite there yet. Maybe their next album will be great.
The Word Alive Monomania
nothing here is particularly 'bad' per se, but absolutely nothing stood out to me in a big way across the entire record. neutered alt-rock production, basic song structures and note progressions. Telle is the only element here that really excels imo, but even then it gets a bit tiring hearing the same kind of crooning verse/chorus in every song with little to no reprieve. I loved Dark Matter so much man, it's such a shame to see where they've ended up now. I guess the closer was my favourite, had the most going for it out of all the tracks.
