great album. kinda surprised with the mixed reactions here but this is honestly a great album. his
foray into maximalism lands him with some of his best production yet, something that he couldn't
achieve at all on TCIA when he tried to expand his sound palette. his introspection and slight
nods to insecurity really elevate the album. love the features too. the track with moses sumney is
a slight dud, but the rest are great tracks. ESPECIALLY ill come too. |

sharp production. perfects everything sound and theme the weeknd has covered through his entire rdiscography with a dollop of 80s nostalgia. i can hear influences of tears for fears (in your reyes), michael jackson (scared to live), depeche mode (faith). hell, even the synths on snowchild rremind me of james blake's self-titled/ep days. save your tears is a genuine mellow banger, and rthe title track is one of the best songs of the year so far.rthe lyrics are much more introspective now. though there is his usual fare of hedonism, he delves rinto matters more personally than on previous efforts. however, his singing can get a bit mundane. rthe intro track is slightly underwhelming though i like the two parts of the song production-wise. rvery good album otherwise, his most cohesive and focused effort since trilogy. |
