This is the platonic ideal of heaviness, negativity and not giving a fuck about musicianship. So good that it makes any follow up album obsolete.Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank PlanetTame Impala Innerspeaker4.5 superbAcid Bath When the Kite String PopsThis album will make you feel things you wish you couldn't feel. Erase. One of the most emotionally affecting albums I have heard in a while ('Happy Returns' brings me to tears) with a concept that is both devastating and eye opening. Personally I would have preferred less of the progressive instrumental sections as I feel they come off as cold and clinical, disrupting the emotional journey that the album carries you on. That said this is still a fantastic album and well worth anyone's time.Turnover Peripheral VisionA short and sweet album with some very beautiful moments. The melodies are pretty and the atmosphere drips with a bittersweet nostalgia. Lyrically this is quite a depressing album but the bright guitar tone and soft atmosphere don't make this immediately apparent. At times the songs do blend together and it lacks some of the catharsis that the lyrics are suggestive of. Overall though a very pleasant and engaging listen that is a bit of a grower.3.5 greatBlack Sabbath Vol. 4Deftones GoreFor me this is definitely a dip in Deftones' recent works. It doesn't really get going until the halfway point and even then the songs are a bit less memorable than those on 'Koi No Yokan' and 'Diamond Eyes'. Its still good stuff, just not on the level that I have come to expect from Deftones.Franz Ferdinand Franz FerdinandOasis (What's the Story) Morning Glory?Slayer Reign In Blood3.0 goodNapalm Death ScumNirvana BleachOasis Don't Believe the Truth2.5 averageDeftones AdrenalineSuicide Silence The Cleansing'Unanswered', 'Hands of a Killer' and 'No Pity for a Coward' are pretty good songs and the unrelenting heaviness is kind of fun. Unfortunately the songs bleed out into an undefined mess and the lack of variation kills the momentum making 'The Cleansing' a bit of a chore to get through.
