All about being against western culture and society. They rock hard too. It can go from something as wacky as Shit Luck, and then go to something as calming as Polar Opposites. This album is quite the ride. FAV TRACKS: Teeth Like God's Shoeshine and Truckers Atlas. And seriously, Shit Luck's hilarious.Modest Mouse The Moon & AntarcticaCompletely blown me away from the first track, I remember getting goose bumps listening to it. Be aware that I'd only listened to Good News at the time, so this album was a total surprise and made me get hooked up with the band. It's wacky and nihilistic and gloomy, it goes everywhere, but in the end always gets back to the spacy vibes that this album revolves around. And of course, the lyrics are amazingly worded and poetic. FAV TRACKS: Oh god no, don't make me choose.Murder by Death Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?I'm a little biased probably, because this is a concept/storytelling album with themes that I'm interested in. But geez, the Devil visiting the wild west to ruin a little town? That's a nice story. And the cello parts that MbD is known for suit this amazingly well. The tracks sound a little somber thanks to it, along with the piano and the calm guitars. It was a great album where you could imagine the story throughout the tracks. I want more albums like this. FAV TRACKS: The Desert's on Fire, Devil in MexicoThe Caretaker Everywhere at the End of Time5/5 gave me a panic attack Okay so I couldn't bear to finish a single track of that album above because it grabbed one of my biggest phobias in the ass and fucked it so hard I ended up with a MASSIVE panic attack and I ended up dissociating. Not very pretty. I hate the thought that I'll lose myself one day.4.5 superbAmerican Football American FootballBaths ObsidianThis album is like a sheet of sadness softly covering you. Sadness embraces you. Obsidian is surely a very personal album, but one I can highly relate with. I generally really love the musical style, I like how it somehow keeps a balance between an easy melody to follow and a little wackiness (the glitching). Some people dislike Wiesenfield's singing voice, but I think the soft vocals resonate well with the equally soft instrumental style. FAV TRACKS: Ironworks, No EyesBuilt to Spill Keep It Like a SecretListened to it to compare with Modest Mouse, but shit, this is so good. I adore the melodies. And while everything sounds happy, the lyrics are sad in a subtle way. An album that is easy to the ears, while still being as jazzy as it can be, but still soft. I often listen to jazz to relax, and Miles Davis really delivers my purpose to me. FAV TRACKS: Not sure, I didn't keep track to the track names. Should listen again sometime.Modest Mouse This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think AboutOrchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Architecture & MoralityAt first it may sound like typical synthpop with new wave elements, but this band seems to get how to convey emotion in this genre. The melancholic atmosphere that this album envelopes somehow appears not only in the lyrics, but even in the sound despite its catchiness. That's what makes this album so amazing, and makes me strongly appreciate this band. FAV SONGS: Souvenir, Of All The Things We've MadePink Floyd Wish You Were HereEvery track here means so much in a lyrical, atmospherical and emotional sense. And all pieces fit together so well. It's a completely different atmosphere, but not one I find better or worse. Lonely Day is so bad though. Otherwise it's filled with amazing tragic lyrics and eargasming guitar shit. Haha. I do think the lyrics are generally harder to understand? Maybe that's why they're harder to dig. James AlbumArctic Monkeys HumbugBaths RomaplasmBee Gees Bee Gees 1stCornelius SensuousDamien Rice My Favourite Faded FantasyThe amount of personal sentimentality in this album, and perhaps the artist in general, is so clear and beautiful. Before this album I'd only heard of Rootless Tree, a song that brims with so much emotion so I already respected the artist from there on, due to a single song. I can already tell Damien's intentions are to simplify music yet give of the essential emotion, and make that as intense as possible, and he succeeds quite nicely at times. He makes a fuckton of use of strings for climaxes, and while it's not unique at all, it works. And it slowly ends with hopefulness. The disadvantage? It's not for everyone, which makes sense anyway. You need to understand the feelings to understand the album. Also the lyrics are kind of too straightforward. And it gets a bit repetitive. However, in the genre they experimented in they didn't really flesh out something truly unique or mindblowing. Album seems to have a little inspiration from Living Things which makes sense. They make the same mistake they've been doing all this time. They think they can make something new by hopping into a new genre but that's not how it works, it's going to sound just as bland as any genre you work in simply because you can't think creatively. Their mistake is their assumption that you cannot make something new out of your own genre you're in when you totally can, but you have to be creative. Lp isn't creative and that's their problem, and I'm very sure they're plagued by that issue, hence why they try to avoid it by hopping from genre to genre. Also, bad lyrics, holy shit the lyrics are bad. Lp has never been great in their lyrics but lmao.
