Depeche Mode Black Celebration
HIM Razorblade Romance
Released just before the explosion of goth metal (or the the reason it ever happened), Razorblade Romance is everything a goth record needs to be: Brooding and dark without forgetting certain aspects of self-consciousness and humor, infectiously catchy and highly sexual. All this while the band shamelessly exploits Ville Valo's newfound sex symbol status and playing with a playfully homoerotic visual image. Not every band has the cojones to release a polished 80's revival album after their clichéd and overly serious debut.
HIM Dark Light
Dark Light is Ville Valo at his most hedonistic. The peak of HIM's noughties' success.rAn ambitious, almost cinematic album, Dark Light is an absolutely wonderful example of what you can get out of relatively simple material with a good producer. Tim Palmer and HIM really pulled everything out what they had to work with.
HIM Venus Doom
Doomy, gloomy and fucking heavy while still sounding pristine and expensive. Just the way I like it.rVenus Doom is an incredible dark whole that takes quite a lot to take in. The songs are multi-layered and downright onanistic at times, but that's how the best records are. If there are new little elements to discover even a decade after it's realese, it means it's worth listening to.

HIM Screamworks: Love In Theory And Practice
This is the HIM album that took me the longest to learn how to truly get. Almost a decade to be exact.rI was fifteen when this album came out, just coming out of the super heavy Venus Doom. Naturally, this bold new pop sound didn't quite sit with me. I did bought this record, listened to it religiously and really tried to like it.rMy by 20's, I found my love of 80's music and gave this record a new perspective. Suddenly it was great: Ville Valo is an 80's child and you can clearly hear his passion toward the era in question. Screamworks is definitely one of HIM's strongest albums that really lifts the top hats off for Ville's influences.

It is needlessly filthy, making the album feel cheap and killing the weakest moments while mellowing down the highs.rThe songs aren't bad in any sense of the worse: Ville Valo is a superb songwriter. The problem is that the low production values never let the music really shine the way it as in has in previous releases. Especially the Sire three.

Wednesday 13 The Dixie Dead
While Wednesday 13 is still first and foremost about having fun, he has also written an album full of hard-hitting riffs and came up with more creative ways to overuse the F-word. Not only is Dixie Dead a move towards a heavier, even more guitar oriented direction, it also happens to be hysterically funny.rAs a guitar player, one of the best things about this album for me is the guitar work! Bloodsucker and Hands of the Ripper are prime examples of a cool riff and Roman Surman has nailed a couple of cool solos here and there as well.
Wednesday 13 Spook & Destroy
Wednesday 13 has never been about musical or lyrical ambition. To me Wednesday stands for bringing fun back in Rock 'n Roll and manages to do that well on Spook and Destroy. I've always liked tongue-in-a-cheek approach to Rock and Wednesday has to be one of the most amusing Rock stars of today.rOnly he can get away with ripping off both Alice Cooper and Mötley Crüe so shamelessly and make it sound fresh. All this and more with a shit load of profanity!rWednesday 13 is like a good 70's exploitation film: You can't take him seriously and the best part is that you don't have to! Just turn off your brain and enjoy the pure lyrical genius of fitting the F-word in every corner imaginable!

This album sums up Lenny Kravitz as an artist: Sometimes he tries and dishes out a smash hit or two. Then making it through the rest of the album is like dragging a dead horse. Apulanta Ehjä
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
Despite the ominous title track, this album is thoroughly overrated. The "songs" is a bunch of guys jamming without a direction.
Black Veil Brides Alive and Burning - Live in Los Angeles
The band plays well and Andy's sounding pretty decent, but the mixing lacks any sort of live feeling and I can't stand the obviously autotuned backing vocals. You can barely hear the audience and the band is boring to watch.
Black Veil Brides Re-Stitch These Wounds
Quantized, sampled drums, thin, unpleasant guitars, overall cheap production values with computer assistance. Fantastic players resorting to making a cynical bedroom product out of their magical debut. A much more experienced band remakes their first effort, but the aforementioned magic is all but gone.
Deathstars Night Electric Night
Flat Earth None For One
Oh no... Seasoned professionals writing weepy tunes devoid of melody or anything interesting to listen to. It's a shame, because technically the songs themselves wouldn't be bad if there was just a little more for me to hear. It's the same guitar-driven whining with a bad keyboard lead and... Ugh...rIt's just fucking boring. So underwhelming in every way imaginable.
