3.5 great
Animals As Leaders Parrhesia
This might actually be their best effort yet. It feels like they've trimmed out a lot of the fat from previous albums. It also feels like they leaned more into the metal side of things on this release which I appreciate.
Brother Von Doom Relentless
Randomly great album. The vocals aren't anything special but the riffs and solos on display here are fucking amazing at times.
Enterprise Earth Luciferous
Not a huge fan of this band but the last song on this album is an absolute banger.
Enterprise Earth Death: An Anthology
This was a lot better than I expected. Definitely their best release since Luciferous.
Entheos (USA) Dark Future
You can really hear the Animals As Leaders influence on this album.
Hemotoxin When Time Becomes Loss
This release has been growing on me. Definitely Death worship but done pretty well.
Lucis Absentia Gehenna Gate
Might bump my rating as this album is growing on me but I gotta say, this band is a straight
up Sylosis clone lol. Some of these songs could have come straight off a Sylosis album. But
I was looking to scratch that itch anyways so I don't mind |
Solution .45 Nightmares In The Waking State Pt. 1
The Absence Coffinized
This is a really enjoyable album, almost every song has a segment with a really catchy riff or lead. A bit of a different sound from their previous albums but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This might be my second favorite album from these guys.
The Absence The Absence
Took a few listens but this is growing on me. Definitely a good blend of their previous
work. One criticism I have with this release (and also their last album) is that the
production seems to be a lot worse than their first few albums for some reason. |
Trivium The Sin and the Sentence
2.5 average
Affiance Gaia
Esoctrilihum Döth-Derniàlh
I gotta be honest, I was pretty hyped for this one but it was a bit of painful listen. Like the other review mentioned, the clean singing is definitely not this dude's strongest element and there is a lot of it to be found here.
I actually think if he slightly adjusted his delivery / cadence, and maybe toned down some of the effects on the cleans, they could be a lot better.
It's also just a more mellow release relative to his other stuff and the heavier side is where I think this project really shines most of the time. So overall this was a pretty big dud for me. |
Gunship Unicorn
Won't lie this is pretty mid. First few songs were good but it was just downhill from there. Their first release still remains their best by far.
Iapetus The Body Cosmic
Definitely NeO worship, but like others mention, it doesn't reach the same highs. In fact, I
don't think it even comes close despite sounding very similar in many respects.
Also, the voice samples scattered throughout are absolute trash and drop this by at least
half a point. |
Lamb of God Omens
Yawn. If this was my first time hearing Lamb of God I could see myself giving this a 3 or even a 3.5 but this album is so by the numbers at this point.
Sylosis A Sign of Things to Come
Sylosis The Path
Honestly, this newer sound they've evolved towards over the last few albums is so boring. I can't quite put my finger on why it falls flat compared to their earlier material but something is just missing.
Whitechapel The Brotherhood of the Blade
I don't understand why this band does not play any material from A New Era of Corruption live.
