| Despite an underwhelming first impression, The Color Before the Sun has, with repeated listens, grown into a compelling and fully realized Coheed album - ironically with its non-concept serving as a concept of its own. Intimate, personal, honest, this record finds Claudio finally engaging directly with the audience instead of by proxy through characters, and it results in a refreshing change of lyrical content. It would be better with more consistency as there are clearly better and worse songs here, but overall what they've accomplished with such a concise effort is impressive. |
