A very underrated gem of early Swedish Death Metal with superb musicianship and interesting song writing. A great reissue to own on vinyl for supreme sound quality. |

Asphyx Deathhammer |
I absolutely love this album. I can?t quite recall if this was my first Asphyx cd or if it was ?Last One On Earth,? but man I remember playing this album and being floored by the heaviness combined with the catchiness and Martin?s awesome vocals. If this album doesn?t make you wanna headbang then I pity you. |

Amazing album from one of the giants of Death Metal. The fact that they can be broken up for 17 years and then come out with an album like this is nothing short of astonishing. It surely cements their legacy if there were any doubts before on how freaking good this band is! |
Cathedral Forest of Equilibrium |
Celtic Frost Monotheist |
Cemetary An Evil Shade of Grey |
This album is amazing. Tons of atmosphere, thick buzzsaw guitars, audible bass, plenty of awesome riffs, and perfect use of keyboards. This album is terribly underrated! It's such a cool mix of extreme metal styles, it's got Swedish death metal signature guitar tones, black metal inspired tremolo picked riffs, old school death metal riffs, evil atmosphere like a more melodic version of Infester on their evil masterpiece "To the Depths In Degredation." This album is just too cool for school. |

One of the best DM albums I?ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. Definitely in my top 10 DM albums of the past 10 years. The vinyl has excellent artwork and a cool lyrics booklet to go with the clear smoky colored album. A++ Metal. |

Death Angel Act III |
Pivotal album by a horribly underrated original Bay Area Thrash Metal band. "The Ultra-Violence" was DA excercising their truly original and pioneering brand of thrash that proved they were every bit as technical, fast, aggressive and great songwriters as their peers Metallica and Exodus. "Frolic" was them trying out new things and reaching in all directions to see how well they could incorporate their love of funk, rock and other styles into their brand of metal. Finally "Act 3" was where they successfully combined what they learned from the previous album with their mastery of catchy riffs and high speed thrash roots mixed with acoustic guitars and more melody. This is an album that shows a band maturing having learned from their experiences. It's just too bad their career was tragically cut short soon after leaving fans wondering just what might and could have been. Classic album. |

Detest Dorval |
I absolutely love this album and am so happy to have discovered it, thank you Dark Descent Records. If they hadn?t just done a vinyl reissue of this classic then I never would have heard of this. This is one of those albums where the cover artwork and colors perfectly suit the mental imagery the sounds of this album convey. It has a cold, bleak, intergalactic alien like atmosphere that hits you right between the eyes just like the cover art represents. This has to be one of my absolute favorite guitar tones I?ve ever heard on tape! It has a spacey airy extra terrestrial tone with a perfect blending of effects (it?s hard for me to discern what effects exactly but could be reverb, delay, chorus, flange or some combination of any of these) and still remains heavy and brutal for a strong rhythmic foundation. I?d love to hear from the band about what guitar gear was used to create/record this album because it is fantastic in my opinion. The producer did a great job too as everything is clear and well balanced even though it?s a very heavy sound which is remarkable to me how many good sounding death metal albums there were in the early 90s considering it was a new genre and most producers had little to no experience recording music that heavy. |

Epidemic (Metal) Decameron |
I think this is one of the very best Death/Thrash albums ever made and is criminally underrated. I've heard and own a fair share of thrash albums, death metal albums and death/thrash albums and I personally put this in top 5 greatest ever along with "Spectrum Of Death," "Epidemic Of Violence," "Retribution," and "Slaughter In The Vatican." I think a lot of people either don't give this album it's proper dues because it's not as well known as other albums and/or because Epidemic only made 1 more album and it was a huge step down from this, which I completely understand. But to judge/rate this based on its own merits is what you have to do and this album is a perfect blend of thrashy catchy riffs, great solos, great drumming, awesome vocals, memorable songs and tons of atmosphere which to me puts it among the elite when all the areas are greatly aligned. |
Eternal Dirge Morbus Ascendit |
Great Thrashy Death Metal. Cool bass lines give a proggy feel reminiscent of Atheist. |
Fulmination Humanity's Dirge |
Extremely underrated classic Old School Swedish Death Metal. These guys were every bit as talented and promising as their peers Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed or Grave. Such a shame they were so short lived but this is a wonderful collection of all the known recordings of the band and remastered with amazing sound I might add, at least on the 2 vinyl version that I currently own. Can?t believe the other rating for this is a 1.5 because that is just blasphemy. To give a 1.5 rating to any group of young musicians who can create and perform material like this is just completely rediculous considering how great the music is and how few people on earth could replicate it and produce equally as impressive results. |

I wanted to give this album a 5 based on cultural significance alone, I mean I think this was the first real U.S. Thrash release, unless something else that was pure Thrash was released prior to this but I don?t think so. Nowadays when I think of how amazing it is that 4 guys this young got together and created this great of music is extremely impressive to me. The unique sound this band created by mixing the melodic sound of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, the speed and ethos of Punk and the riff heavy guitar work of Black Sabbath was such a unique combination of all the great elements of aggressive music. The songs are straight and to the point, full of energy, memorable and fun to listen to. These songs written by a group of teenagers has stood the test of time and rivals anything out there today in terms of enjoyment. The band name Metallica was the perfect moniker for the band and represented what they truly were. A mixing pot of Metal?s greatest attributes. |

This album rules hard! I have the special edition green/yellow marble vinyl from century media inked in blood out of 666 copies produced. It is so killer! It's strange to me that ppl call this melo-death? The music is frantic jazzy/proggy death metal similar to early Atheist and the vocals are harsh almost black metal at times. It's got really cool riffs and sections plus it has a unique sound/atmosphere. It gets better every time I hear it and new things are discovered as well. |

This album kicks ass. Picked this up yesterday at thrift store in perfect condition for $0.50. Great riffs and an overall unique thrash/hardcore sound. The vocalist reminds me of Coroner, which is always a good thing. One of the best 80's metal albums I've ever heard. Only thing lame about the album is the cover. They should've put some thought into creating artwork for the album and hiring a decent artist to create some actual artwork instead of s lame blown-up band photo. Band photos are never a good idea for. Lbum covers. There's nothing interesting or unique about a picture of 4 or 5 dudes staring into a camera. Plus album "art" is quite instrumental in shaping a mental image and a subconscious association with the music. All the great albums have album art that is unique and goes hand in hand with the music within. |
Death Scream Bloody Gore |
Death Individual Thought Patterns |
This is the one Death album out of the lot that was the ?grower? album for me. Upon first listen(s) the awesome and memorable riffs seem less noticeable than on all the other Death albums and I?m still not exactly sure why. Perhaps it?s the production, or maybe the incredible musicianship from the rest of the band or the greater technicality that surrounds these songs but for whatever reason it becomes more apparent with each subsequent listen just how majestic this album really is as a whole and how much attention to detail went into these songs by all the people involved. |

Entombed Monkey Puss (Live in London) |
If my rating of a 4 out of 5 seems high to others who have heard this and are not of the same opinion, then let me explain in a little better detail. This live recording, although released by Earache, is actually listed as a bootleg. With that in mind, I feel they did an excellent job recording the sounds of the band in concert with whatever cheap recording equipment they no doubt had to work with. My other main focus on this live recording is that it was done in 1992 on the "Gods Of Grind Tour" which just so happens to capture this band during it's glory years, and for that reason alone I feel this is a very historical and special album that is the only one we who were not able to witness this band back then are fortunate enough to experience now. I also feel it is performed with the best lineup this band consisted of and a set list made up of gems only from the first 2 classic Entombed albums. Anyone familiar with the bands early material should pick this up and I would also recommend to any fan of death metal, particularly early Swedish death metal from the godfathers themselves. |
Excruciate Passage of Life |
Classic Swedish Death Metal gem. Produced by Tomas Skoksberg @ legendary Sunlight Studios. Cover art by Necrolord. With assistance by Tomas from At the Gates. The recent vinyl reissues by the Crypt are awesome sounding as well. |
Exodus Fabulous Disaster |
Forbidden Forbidden Evil |
Gorguts Considered Dead |
Gorguts Colored Sands |
Great material from one of Death Metal?s true icons and pioneers. All of the great Gorguts elements remain from the past but in a much more subtle presence. This is definitely a more mature piece of work from Luc and even though he has toned down his approach it is in no way less powerful or meaningful, just more mature which comes with age and experience. Luc shows here just how great of a guitarist and more importantly a songwriter he has evolved into over the years. |
Grave You'll Never See... |
Just an overall classic osdm album. Everything is top notch guitars, bass, drums, lyrics, titles, artwork. It's never too flashy but still remains distinctly it's own and extremely solid. The 2016 vinyl version from Century Media mastered by Patrick Engel really brings out all the nuances of sound and gives the Thomas Skoksberg mix an even deeper richer sound. Classic Swedish death metal. |

Jeff Beck Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop |
Exceptional playing from the guitar legend. Beck?s mastery of the instrument is so evident, it?s as if when he picks up his Strat he fuses together with the guitar and the 2 become one. Great drumming as well, wonderful chemistry by the musicians involved. Such a treat to experience this work and I can?t praise it enough or explain its importance to me as not just as a guitarist but as a music lover as well. |
Kreator Terrible Certainty |
Malevolent Creation Stillborn |
Megadeth Dystopia |
Messiah Extreme cold weather |
I think this is a really underrated Metal album. It?s just a really cool thrashy Death Metal style with a unique guitar sound that reminds me of the awesome guitar sound that Possessed had on the album ?Beyond the Gates? and much like it did for that album it also succeeds here by painting a dark and ominous tone which works great to balance out the humorous lyrics and album cover keeping it dark and grounded instead of becoming a parody of itself which might of otherwise happened. This album also seems to get better with each subsequent listen and more things are discovered. Highly recommend for people who love Thrash Metal or Death Metal and are looking for something new to enjoy. |

Love the riffs, energy, songwriting, drumming and vocals on this album. Was blown away at how good it sounded immediately when I first bought it and how unlike the newer Slayer releases for the most part, this album was an incredible release by the band this late in their careers. The production sounds really cool too and I think it fits these songs perfectly. With so many classic Slayer albums I still rate this as one of my favorites and I am sad that one of my favorite guitar players/songwriters ever died after this but it does make me really happy to know that he went out on such a high note in my opinion. "Psycopathy Red" is not just one of my favorite Hanneman riffs ever but one of my favorite riffs period, I put it neck and neck with "Angel Of Death" as 2 of his greatest creations. Long live Jeff Hanneman! |

Vital Remains Into Cold Darkness |
Another great album by Vital Remains. I love the 1st album and I really enjoy what they did with the follow up. It has a unique sound all of its own and improves upon what they did so well on the previous album without sounding like an exact copy either. Also an interesting fact is that Scott Burns of Morrissound studios (Tampa,FL) was the engineer and did the mixing on this album, who was a very in-demand record producer during '94/'95 when this was recorded. I personally love the gloomy atmosphere the album art conjures with the wolf in the dark, cool to see a death metal album that dosent use gore/horror imagery. |
