| Although many people don't necessarily like BMTH, I enjoyed both TIAH and Sempiternal. Both albums mixed their heavier side with their unique sound and style of experimentation very well. Whenever you heard a song off of those two albums, you thought "this is a BMTH song". On this album, I found myself comparing the songs to other artists and bands that they sounded similar to instead of thinking "this is a BMTH song". Everything that made them unique is gone, including Oli's voice. It literally lost it's unique qualities and became generic. Not only that, but the mixing is fairly poor and the instruments are hard to hear... whenever there are instruments, that is. Every song sounds linear and flat. The softer songs on Sempiternal were much better than this entire album, which is basically a soft alt-rock/pop album. There are a few good songs on this album such as Doomed, Avalanche, Throne, and Drown, but the rest are enough to put you to sleep. Disappointing that this is how they followed up one of the best albums of their career in Sempiternal. |
