5.0 classic |
Arcade Fire Funeral |
10; This album is the very definition of a modern-day classic. I don't think Arcade Fire has ever done anything this good and nor do I think they ever will. |
Arcade Fire Neon Bible |
Beach House Beach House |
9.7; This album is hands down my favorite Beach House album. Yeah I think it's better than Bloom and Teen Dream (both fantastic records as well). This album just holds a really special place in my heart. |
Black Sabbath Master of Reality |
10; This thing is just a heavy metal classic. 'nuff said |
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath |
10; One of the best metal albums to ever be made. Hell, it might be the best one ever made. |
Daft Punk Discovery |
10; This thing is my favorite house album, favorite dance album, and favorite electronic album. This thing is a damn masterpiece. |
Daft Punk Homework |
9.7; This album is also a french house classic. Not perfect or as accessible as Discovery, but it's still a damn good record. |
Death Grips The Money Store |
9.7; We all know this thing will be seen as a hip-hop classic in about a decade. Whether it be for its immense innovation or utter genius |
Earth Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version |
10; This album is an experience, one which can only be experienced a few times. |
Electric Wizard Dopethrone |
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven |
10; This album is in my top 5 with another GY!BE record. How amazing are they! |
Godspeed You! Black Emperor F♯ A♯ ∞ |
10; Favorite post-rock record, favorite Godspeed album, and 2nd favorite album of all-time. Of course this thing is a classic. |
Iceage New Brigade |
10; This album is contender for album of the decade along with To Pimp a Butterfly. Yup, it's that good. |
Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison |
10; Best live album ever, best country album ever, and the prison setting is amazing. This is one of the very few classic country albums to exist. |
Joy Division Unknown Pleasures |
10; Can words explain how good this thing is? Just listen to it, you'll see what I mean. |
Kate Bush Hounds of Love |
10; This is the best pop record I've ever heard. Thanks Fantano |
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly |
10; This has a possibility of being album of the decade. Yeah, it's that good. This is definitely gonna become a hip-hop classic in the years to come |
Madvillain Madvillainy |
9.8; No, I don't think this is a 10. But is it a classic? Yeah |
Megadeth Rust in Peace |
10; This might be the best thrash metal album out there. Yeah, Metallica also might have it too. |
Metallica Master of Puppets |
10; A heavy metal classic. Not my favorite from them, but it's worthy of all of the praise. |
Metallica Ride the Lightning |
10; Favorite Metallica record here. Either this or Rust in Piece is the best thrash metal album, so hard to choose |
Metallica ...And Justice for All |
10; This album doesn't get enough cred. This is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard. |
My Bloody Valentine Loveless |
10; I still think Isn't Anything is better, but damn is this album good. Loveless is another 1991 alt-rock classic. |
My Bloody Valentine Isn't Anything |
10; Favorite MBV record. This thing has been on repeat all summer. |
Nirvana Bleach |
9.7; This is such a great record. Some hidden grunge classics on this one. |
Nirvana In Utero |
10; This is my favorite Nirvana record. No, it didn't have as much of an impact on music as much as Nevermind did, but I just love this one more for adding some more experimentation and showing immense evolution in their sound. |
Pixies Doolittle |
Pixies Surfer Rosa |
Sade Promise |
10; Promise is my favorite jazz/r&b album. Her amazing voice and and instrumentals make this album the masterpiece it is. |
Slint Spiderland |
10; Oh my Slint. I'll always remember the countless summers spent listening to this album. This thing is in my top 10 for sure. |
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation |
10; Well, this is the end, the end of Sonic Youth's trilogy of albums which have been dubbed as their best and most influential work. It started off with EVOL, my personal favorite album from them, Sister, most Sonic Youth fans favorite (as it seems), and Daydream Nation, which is known as one of the best alternative albums to have ever been made. While this isn't my favorite album from them, I can still respect it and notice it as one of the most influential alternative albums to have ever been made. Heck, without this album, we not not even know the Nirvana we love today, as Kurt said this album was an influence on his work. You've all heard this album, so I won't really go to much into detail about it's craft and what it has to offer. Here's 'Cross the Breeze, probably their most aggressive song on the LP. This song and Brother James have the best vocals I have ever heard from Kim on any song. Their very loud, aggressive, and filled with hatred and I love it when Kim can really push her vocals on edge. Other songs I would recommend are, well, all of them. The album is really pleasant on the ears, as opposed to the most of their catalog. The only songs I personally don't really like are The Sprawl and Total Trash, as I feel like they're a bit more on the boring side musically. But anyways, this is a fun album, and I'm sure most music fans would enjoy it on first listen. |
Sonic Youth Sister |
10; Everyone loves this album, and so do I. Schizophrenia is one of the best songs to have ever been made. |
Sonic Youth Evol |
10; EVOL is a great album, in fact, I think it's perfect. It's my favorite SY album. It includes everything I love in my Sonic Youth: a dark atmosphere, catchiness, guitar experimentation, and long, droning outros. All of that can be heard in this song, which is why I love it so much. Still though, the rest of the album is perfect. The soft intro to the album with Tom Violence, interesting guitars and soft vocals with Shadow of a Doubt, the dancy Starpower, the poetic In The Kingdom #19, Green Light, which is my 2nd favorite song on the album, with a haunting guitar riff, Death to Our Friends, a great instrumental, the creepy Secret Girls, which is followed by the creepier Marilyn Moore, and it ends with the amazing Expressway To Yr. Skull. The album is perfect in my opinion. |
Sonic Youth Sonic Nurse |
10; I absolutely love this album. I personally think that it's the last perfect album they've had
since Daydream Nation. As my 5th favorite Sonic Youth album, Sonic Nurse brings possibly the
calmest songs on any of their albums. It can't get any quieter than this. But it's odd, I
absolutely love this album, but I don't really think much of Murray St. although they both have
some very similar elements. But, it's kind of a "just me" type of thing. Sonic Nurse broke the
chain of limited Kim Gordon vocal features which is probably part of the reason why I love this
album so much. The four songs on this album with her vocals are some of my favorite Sonic Youth
songs. Songs like Pattern Recognition, which seems to show the most aggression on this album, or
Dude Ranch Nurse, which I really feel like describing as "sexy." And we can't forget the
masterpiece that is I Love You Golden Blue. Paper Cut Exit with Lee's vocals has to be my favorite
song with his vocals right next to I Dreamed I Dream. And all of the songs with Thurston's vocals
on this record fit perfectly. I don't really have a gripe with this album. In my opinion, this
album is better than Daydream Nation, and while many others would disagree, I still have to say
that I think both albums are perfect and I still have both on repeat. With that said, definitely
check this one out, it's my 5th favorite from them. Pretty much everyone I've discussed this album
with at least liked it, so I don't think you'll be disappointed. |
Sonic Youth Bad Moon Rising |
10; I think this album is WAY too overlooked. This album shows a lot of evolution in the bands sound which would later evolve into other classics such as EVOL, Sister, and everyone's favorite, Daydream Nation. But besides what this album did in terms of improving their sound, it's a damn good record. Try it out, you'll either love it, or not care for it. Hopefully you feel the same about this record as I did. |
Sonic Youth Confusion Is Sex |
10; This album is one of the best I've ever heard. It had an impact on what I think about music, it gave me a reason to venture out to some genres and bands I would've never listened to, and it gives me a strong motivation to make music I enjoy making instead of music which would only try to impress others. Of course I think this album is a classic. You have (She's in a) Bad Mood, Protect Me You, Freezer Burn, Inhuman, Shaking Hell, Lee is Free, Making the Nature Scene, Confusion is Next, and The World Looks Red. This album is so damn perfect that I've memorized the whole setlist. Even though Freezer Burn and Lee is Free are experimental soundscapes, they still manage to be great songs in my opinion. My only complaint is that the average user score is way too low. I just genuinely love this thing, maybe a bit too much. |
Suicide Suicide |
10; This album... Just listen to it all at 1 am in the dark in your bedroom (or in your backyard shed at the same time without light if you're feeling adventurous) |
Sunn O))) Black One |
10; This album is a god damn experience. Try listening to this at 2 am in a dark room alone with some great noise isolating headphones. You won't regret it ;) |
Swans Filth |
Swans Soundtracks for the Blind |
Swans Children of God |
10; Oh my, what a powerful album. At the end of it, it'll keep you thinking about everything you believe in. The very harsh instrumentals along with the very aggressive vocals fit what this album is trying to say just amazingly well. This is for sure a Swans classic. |
The Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream |
U2 Achtung Baby |
U2 War |
U2 The Unforgettable Fire |
