Subway To Sally HEY!
A modern take on the band's style with influences
from other genres than medieval rock or metal.
Fans might be alienated, but make no mistake -
this is easily one of their best and most
complelte albums, which means something, when the
bad has been around for 30 years and isn't short
on good album.

System of a Down System of a Down
The Hirsch Effekt Eskapist
Uh, this is so good, I could see myself actually 5ing this in the future. It's loud, it's colourful, aggressive, ugly, beautiful, bizarre, quirky, still kind of accessable etc.rThe influences come from various places like metalcore, prog, jazz, classical, indie etc, yet the songs are cohesive pieces of music and just make sense. They're walking a fine line, but they're walking it masterfully

4.5 including bonus points for Dio's vocals. Some songs in the middle are a bit weaker, but Tarot Woman and Stargazer are the huge masterpieces here and they up the rating a little bit. What we have here is early/proto heavy metal, depending on your perspective. You can feel the hard rock everywhere, but more often than not it's larger than hard rock, larger than life. Just like the cover. However, Rainbow has always been about individual songs, not album, for me.

The songs are short, straight forward and creative. Listening to this makes me feel happy and terribly sad at the same time, it's really bittersweet and convincing. rMy biggest gripe with this is its shortness, but it's still a satifying listen.

Subway To Sally Nord Nord Ost
I came around to this. The only dud is S.O.S.,
everything else bangs. The album is a classic of
the genre.
Subway To Sally Himmelfahrt
The more positive themes feel a bit cheesy and the lyrics are a bit worse for it HOWEVER the album slaps pretty hard and the overall feel makes this one a favorite STS for me
Subway To Sally Herzblut
Their compositions are really unique, the way the melodies go through the key changes are ... weird, but somehow they work great. A unique band that needs time to grow on you
Subway To Sally Post Mortem
STS return to darker themes like snake oil
sailsmen (Wunder), mad leaders (Nero) and history
repeating itself through corruption
(Lumpensammler). Also the classic theme of growing
weary having a burden too heavy on your shoulders
(Atlas), a tale about the boogie-man-like creature
called 'Sorrow Child' (Kummerkind) and a classic
femicide-broken-heart story. But at the same time
STS celebrate not being dead yet (Post Mortem,
Phnix) and coming together through music
(Eisheilige Nacht, Unter dem Banner). Overall it's
a darker continuation of Himmelfahrt, which means
it rules and depending on your gusto you will
prefer one over the other.

Vienna Teng Dreaming Through the Noise
A very dark and moody album that's definitely more down beat and jazzier. The songs are slow and tragic, Vienna's voice is more haunting than ever. Warm Stangers was a step up from Waking Hours in terms of diversity and artistry, but at the same time is lacked the innocent charm of the debut. However on this one you can feel the maturity and its results in a crushingly dark album

Haken Virus
So, listened to this a fair bit. Messiah Complex overshadows the other songs. Carousel and Invasion can compete and that's most of the album's runtime. The other songs are fine. I feel like this deserves a 4.0, because of the excellent songs, but a 3.5 would make sense as well
Heaven and Hell The Devil You Know
Heisskalt Vom Stehen und Fallen
Great standout tracks, but also some blander cuts like Bestehen or the closer. It's very atmospheric though and shows a band full of energy, talent and potential
Heisskalt Idylle
Heisskalt were in a crisis and the record reflects just that. It's far from cohesive, shows more experimental songwriting approaches and feels unfocused. The band went on hiatus after touring for this record, but six years later they came back, saying they sorted things out. So fingers crossed the new one is gonna rule

Rabbit Junk Rabbit Junk
Rabbit Junk Apocalypse For Beginners
The best album of their cyber metal era, beginning with Meditations on Mortality. A diverse range of sounds blended into their newer industrial dance floor metal makes things mich more interesting this time around, just check Rabbit Out of Hiding and Bodies. Love is Hell is such a tune. I might still miss the energy of ReFrame, when RJ was just a bedroom project, but as long as the quality is like this, it's just the kind of pain every fan has to live with when a favorite band is past their golden era and searching for new quests

Serj Tankian Harakiri
Serj Tankian Imperfect Harmonies
Quirky, extravagant, interesting and unique. Imperfect Harmonies isn't as catchy as Elect The Dead and needs some time to sink in, but it's woth every second.
Serj Tankian Elect the Dead
While the flaws are obvious (somehow predictable, instrumentation is just a vehicle for Serj's voice etc.) the songs are extremely catchy and very memorale. Can't help myself, this just feels very strong, even after years of listening.

TesseracT Odyssey/Scala
This transports the live feeling very well and their AS songs feel so much more organic live. Dan's singing on the AS tracks leaves a little to be desired, but honestly even Ashe struggled with them an Dan does a fine job overall. This is for people who think AS sounded too bloated and lifeless. Especially Singularity shines here, because they trimmed some of its fat
TesseracT One (Instrumental)
TesseracT War of Being
Consistently solid, but - as so often with this band - lacking in terms of songwriting. This album won't change anyone's opinion on the band. If you didn't vibe with them in the past, you won't this time. If you did vibe with them, you will. If they were always so-so you - as it is thencase for me - this will frustrate you. The quality is there, but there is no reason to come back to this

The Hirsch Effekt Kollaps
THE try lots of new things here. One thing is shortening the songs, that's quite a challenge for a band like this. Another thing is some new styles. The opener Kris is like a Leprous song from The Congregation/Malina era. Bilen is like a more complex Rammstein song. Some songs a little more electronic, like Torka. The songs don't have these big intros and outros, they go into eachother directly, so this album has a different sense of pacing than the ones before.rKollaps is a good album by a band that isn't afraid to challenge themselves. Some might be turned off, but THE are keeping their identity while eliminating every sense of treading water. It's a success.

Trivium In Waves
I used to like this a lot and it's still very solid and fun melodic mainstream metal. This record is diverse, full of great melodies and riffs, despite obvious flaws (Whatch The World Burn. Could this song be any more repetitive?) All this being said, I feel like I grew out of this kind of music.
Trivium The Sin and the Sentence
Trivium In the Court of the Dragon

VCTMS Vol. IV: Numb The Ache
Vienna Teng Waking Hour
Waking Hour may not be perfect, but every song on here is very enjoyable and has its own identity. The whole album has a very calm and soothing nature that's hard not to appreciate
Vienna Teng Warm Strangers
Much more diverse than it's predecessor, but not as intimate. Overall the quality is the same, Vienna Teng proves that she can write a wide range of different kinds of songs with different moods and subject matters
Voices from the Fuselage Odyssey: The Founder of Dreams
Probably the best possible rendition of this generic style with stellar vocals. I can't see this anywhere near a 4.5, but Ashe's vocals are always welcome. This band needs more interesting instrumentals though
Voivod Killing Technology
Von Hertzen Brothers Love Remains the Same
White Moth Black Butterfly The Cost Of Dreaming
Very nice, but Dan really has to add breath at the end of every vocal line to sound
emotional, has he? It's a bit too much for me. Record strikes me as a bit more contemporary.
