5.0 classic
Anathema Judgement
This band meant the world to me a few years
ago. I eventually realised that they are
rather repetitive, that they only have one way
of expressing their message: float around
moodily, scream heart out, and resolve
into a misty optimism. Works really well
tho, and their transcending genre boundaries
thing keeps stuff from getting boring.
Objectively, this is not quite a classic, but
to hell with that.
Opeth Blackwater Park
Radiohead OK Computer
"Chip on my shoulder made of silicon. My
printed circuit's like a lexicon. Ten billion
logic functions maybe more. They
make me pick the paper of the floor.
Solitary solenoid, terminally paranoid Marvin;
nothing left to be enjoyed, every diode
rheumatoid Marvin; outer alloy inner void
Marvin. Happiness has been destroyed."

An ugly, smothering colossus. Kinda like life.
Totally like life. 'Gentle Time' has the
gravitas to make a brave man go lie face down
on a bed, sob hysterically, and hammerfist the
pillow dejectedly. Perfect mindfulness
practice material.
Katatonia Tonight's Decision
Opeth Ghost Reveries
Pain of Salvation The Perfect Element, Part 1
My battle hardened prog-tolerance creaked
alarmingly when subjected to this.
It has some nice moments tho, and is so
outlandish that it's actually quite a
fascinating thing to sit through.

3.0 good
Anathema Alternative 4
Anathema Weather Systems
They ditched most of the aspects that made
them good and decided to molest the listener
with contrived, embarrassingly over-emotional
rock songs. I had high expectations. Numbo-dumbo-jumbo-mumbo-schmumbo, man.
Devin Townsend Infinity
Devin Townsend Project Epicloud
Have a Nice Life The Unnatural World
Katatonia Brave Murder Day
I'd like to compare this album to a sculpture
made out of rubbish. It's creative and worth a
glance, but alas, rubbish. Everything
prior to 'Last Fair Deal' is a challenge to
listen to without squirming in
embarrassment.
