| I am surprised by the divided reception, though each is entitled to their own opinion. To me, this is their best album to date. With the line-up changes, it feels as though the band has renewed creative energy in this album. Though I do miss Daniel's subtle style, the new drummer really respects the old and injects some new style into the percussion. The album itself (imo) is also their most ambitious album to date, exploring a more proggy Katatonia. Honestly, the last few albums really felt a bit tired to me, following in the footsteps of TGCD , and didn't do much to add anything new to the Katatonia songbook (don't get me wrong I really do like DEK and NITND). However, this album features some of the bands best songwriting, at times songs stringing together into one cohesive song. Thus the album is quite consistent; I like/love pretty much every song on this album. |
