Mikael Akerfeldt should have released it under a different band name and save everybody the head scratching. The talent and musicianship is still there, it just lacks the originality of previous releases, where their influences were the part of their music and not imitations. I really like the first two tracks "Eternal Rains" and "Cusp of Eternity", and can listen to "Goblin" and "River", but the rest just too often sounds like self indulgent wankery. This album is more of a regression than evolution from a band once noted for it's uncategorizable originality.
