I'd Argue 13 is a much better "comeback" record, but slow, chuggy doom is probably a lot easier to play in your 60s than NWOBHM2.0 poorMastodon Once More 'Round the SunThis record sees Mastodon trodding extremely familiar territory, but with much less direction. Sure, a couple tracks are catchy enough, but it sounds like Mastodon doing Mastodon. Seems like this record is getting a lot of credit for "going mainstream", which I don't really see as being a virtue on it's own. Like, "Guys! You made a record that solidly occupies the middle of the road! Great job!" Pallbearer's "Sorrow and Extinction" was extremely popular amongst "people-who-don't-like-metal" because it was a flat out fantastic record, not one that aimed to please. Myrkur MyrkurIt's not that it's bad, it's just not very good. It will sell, though, because the purveyors of cool over at Pith-fork can't pass up the combination of Black Metal and Mysterious (Hip) Woman.
