Bathory Blood Fire Death
This is one very well considered album by an artist, who knows what he wants to achieve. Horse riding intro will take you right into the battle, which begins by "Fine Day to Die" epos, then you come through black violence of thrashing war machine in the next songs and album ends by majestic title track and typical outro. Every song could stand alone, but together it creates real amazing and spine-chilling work of art.
Bathory Hammerheart
Yes I really love this colossal album, which is full of bitter grief of violently forced christianity in his home country in the past, I love the sound that`s unlike any other, I love songwriting, instruments, anything. Quorthon was great as black metal vocalist, his melodical singing has just that touch of imperfection that is needed to make it special. And I don`t know if there is anybody else who stood at a birth of two metal styles, as he did.
Bathory Under the Sign of the Black Mark
As for me, this is the first masterpiece of Bathory. It retained its roughness, darkness and brutality and added some extra sense for melodiousness to create one fantastic black metal opus, where fast and slow tracks co-exist together in perfect balance.
Bathory Twilight of the Gods
Beautiful and probably the most mature Quorthons work, dignified successor of Hammerheart with more classical influences and production that is more fine than rough.

Hypocrisy The Fourth Dimension
This is my favourite Hypocrisy album. They have many classic songs here like Apocalypse, Reincarnation, massive Slaughter or majestic title track. I bet there can`t be no Hypocrisy show without two or three songs from "Fourth Dimension" as well as it can`t be without Roswell 47. rThis is the first LP where they found and defined their own style, all ingrediences of their on-coming production (including alteration of slow and quick songs) are present here. Their music is simple, heavy, brutal, and very metal. With deep swedish sound (not from Sunlight however) and strong melodies in slow songs they are able to create an impressive atmosphere, just to beat you to death with another smasher. Keyboards are used here only when it makes sense and finally, vocals are excellent, mostly deep death metal growls here from Tagtgren.rBy the way, I think that term `melodic death metal' didn`t exist in 1994, and i don`t like it too much, so... this is death metal that is very direct and heavy, with some doom metal influence in its slower passages.

IT is Rolls Royce of Dissonant Avantgarde Jazzy Death/Black Metal

ominous, dissonant, urban, dark, disturbing, surreal, technical, avant-garde, chaotic, dense, atonal, unusual time signatures, eclectic, male vocals, angst, complex, apocalyptic, heavy, hellish, progressive, atmospheric, manic, mysterious, nocturnal , an aggressive, noisy, mysterious, creepy, misanthropic, abstract, pessimistic, alienated, suspenseful... and surprising album?
Not so with IT, with their fifth full-length album (less than 55 minutes of misanthropy and current dystopian lyrics) they only confirm their leading position in the current world of avant-garde metal, again in perfect form straight from the craziest human anthill that never sleeps.

Great addition to NA discography.
This is perfect compilation from NA early days. Most of the tracks here were previously unreleased or B-sides from their singles, with some live tracks added. A must for any NA fan!
Nuclear Assault Handle With Care
Nuclear on its top.
Most aggressive, most brutal, most concerned album from these guys. They are really making massive nuclear bombardment with no remorse here. Lilker`s bass was never so huge, I think he has found his sound here, later used in grindcore waters.
Great opener "New Song" followed by track after track not losing any quality. Maybe I can pick up "Critical Mass", "Emergency", "F# (Wake Up) or "Torture Tactics", but I like whole album. They didn?t end their tradition with short hyper speed tracks, "Mother`s Day" is an example. And longer one "Trail of Tears" ends this album in perfect way. Yes, I think it`s quite important for a band to have strong first and last songs, it really improves over-all impression of any album.
A classic!
Nuclear Assault Fight to Be Free
Equal Rights, Human Rights!
Classic single of whole crossover thrash genre.
Three excellent songs adumbrating coming of their fantastic "Survive" LP. Perfect combination of thrash metal and hardcore with conscious lyrics. Lot of energy, and lot of dedication to what they do. First track starts with acoustic guitar, but soon after that we have all the moshing insanity of their very own way. My favourite - Equal Rights.

Psí Vojáci Myši v poli a jiné příběhy
This is where PV probably reached its peak. Yes, first two albums are classical too, this one giving even little bit extra to it. Incredibly powerful songs and wonderful lyrics - as ever...
Psí Vojáci Leitmotiv
Unbelieavably beautiful. Better produced than their debut, and still keeping that unchained live energy they alwas had. Wonderful lyrics, pure poetry (Czech language). Last track is one hypnotic insanity.
Psí Vojáci Nalej čistého vína, pokrytče
Psi vojaci was legendary Czech underground piano-jazz-rock band. This is their first officialy released LP, as they couldn`t release anything before 1989 and change of regime (founded in 1979, played many more or less legal concerts, constantly in problems with communist party of CS).
They have many classic songs here, in fact nearly every one was an underground hit. Charismatic leader Filip Topol (piano, vocal) is excellent on piano and has its own characteristic style of singing - lyrics are very strong part of this LP, could stand alone as a poetry. Sound of the band is hardened by rock rhytmics (bass, drums). Occasionally they also use guitar, sax or trumpet.
Maybe not so accessible for those who can not understand czech lyrics, as this is a big part of over-all experience, but surely strong musically as well.

Unholy (FIN) Rapture
99% of any black metal bands can only dream of creating such an intense, devastating and apocalyptic atmosphere that this untraditional doom/death metal band has achieved on this album. I really don't know any band to compare to Unholy, they're original and absolutely themselves in every tone of this magnificent opus, which is supported by esoteric lyrics and impressive visuals. Magic!
P.S.: Look out for riffing in "Petrified Spirits" ... one of the best in doom metal history.

Virgin Black Requiem - Mezzo Forte
I must confess the fact I don`t know older releases from Virgin Black... but now it will change soon, because this record really got me today.
"Requiem - Mezzo Forte" is excellent fusion of classical music and very slow (funeral) doom metal. Actually, guest musicians often take main roles here, namely Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Susan Johnson on soprano. Choir is also important and often used element here. Metal components are added sensitively; vocalist Rowan London uses his tenor much more than his growls, while drums plays decently for the most time, guitars are usually put on to further develope the theme or just follow it. Nobody is trying to stand out above the others, they all work together for one consistent outcome. And really nobody is hurrying here, it`s a requiem, you know...

Another avant-garde gem, this time from Scotland, and quite a different affair from, for example, Imperial Triumphant, although some common features would be found. However, this recording is excellently colored by violins in the basic composition of the band, which gives it a special ethnic and flavor, the jazz one is evoked by the use of saxophone for a change, in addition there are also female vocals, choirs (track 4 is of an operatic nature) and piano.
The vocals are more spoken and sung than shouted, no growling here, overall it's more progressive metal than dissonant death metal. Great last melancholic post-metal influenced track to end the album. A remarkable piece of art.

Darkthrone Under a Funeral Moon
Although "A Blaze" stands as my favourite for all time because of its inimitable atmosphere, I admit that "Under" is more pure black release. Songs are quite recognizable one from another, after all, everyone of three group members has his songs here (Fenriz wrote most of them, four). I have no doubt this is cornerstone of new extreme and remorseless black metal scene (saying nothing new I know, but it`s just like that).

Debut album of Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy sounds very alive considering the fact it comes straight from the hell. They are merciless, accurate, quick and brutal, with punishing double bass and occasional grinding blast beats, good guitars with some solos and killer riffs, nice bass guitar and droughty satanic vocal helping to create atmosphere of darkness. They may sound kind of primitive, but this is not jazz you know.rHighly recommended for any fan of old school (and satanistic) death metal.

Impaled Nazarene Suomi Finland Perkele
I think one thing about IN that makes them so annoying for some people is the fact that black metal box seems to be too narrow for them and they feel free to play what they like and not what is supposed to be played by black metal band. Heavily influenced by crust punk and grindcore, they created their very own and original, although sometimes chaotic sound.
Third album of the band is their most diversified work, while keeping insane brutal blasting tracks (2,4,7,9) they step towards more melodical song writing (3,5,11) and slower, even doom tempos (6), some space left for crustpunk black (8,10), intro/outro can`t be missed, all squeezed in half an hour. Songs just differ one from the other, highlits for me are Blood Is Thicker than Water and Total War - Winter War. One more thing - bass play is excellent throughout all album and has one exceptional, steely sound.
Excellent album!

I think that M.O.D. reached its top on this one. They have strong line-up here (later joined bands as Ministry, Mind Funk, Overkill), all musicians excell and John Monte on bass shines, staying within scope of crossover thrash. This subgenre never reached some bigger comercial success, actually you can hardly find better music for doing crazy mosh than this.

Master's Hammer Jilemnický Okultista
I think it`s quite hard to fully enjoy the record without understanding the lyrics, because libretto in this black metal opera is fantastic and full of hidden humour. Brand of Czech language used here is old fashioned and unique.
And music? No one can say this record lacks originality, while keeping some black metal techniques, they added many keyboards and melodies to their sound. OK, maybe they are no virtuose musicians, but they all do their jobs well, with typical timpani being used. Colourful keyboards are significant here and the vocal is simply unreal.
Hey, did anybody hear about symphonic black metal back in 1992?!?
Note: I like demo version of this record even little bit more, maybe just because it`s been released sooner... (only problem is I can not find the old casette right now...)

"DMDS" is widely established black metal classic and I can agree to that, as the record is really pure black metal of stellar quality and vocals give it the touch of insanity. On the other hand, I absolutely disagree with opinion that this is their only album which is worth listening. Later on, with Blasphemer on guitar, they discovered new ways in playing black metal and Hellhammer is twice as good now as in those days...

Nuclear Assault Game Over
Nuclear Assault Survive
"Survive" is a second LP by crossover thrash classics Nuclear Assault.
This is very clenched album, being something over an half hour long. Improved playing, better production, but the same spirit. The band is definitely more mature than on debut album. Lilker`s bass is again very important part of the record.
Of course, some extra short tracks can`t be missed - instrumental interlude ending side A and than only 11 seconds long "PSA" thrashcore. Album ends with Led Zeppelin cover of "Good Times, Bad Times".
Anyway, I give it same rating as "Game Over", because I like both LPs quite similarily. "Equal Rights", also included on "Fight to Be Free" single, stands as my personal favorite.

Prong Prove You Wrong
Psí Vojáci Nechoď sama do tmy (tvorba z let 1983-86)
This is archival release of a concert played in January 1987, Prague. All songs from this album were released already in 1990, but only on casettes, so this is a very welcome return to the times, when this band was one of the leaders of czech underground scene with their very own style of piano-rock with strong songs and charismatic leader Filip Topol. His piano, dark while still poetic lyrics, and expressive vocals are characteristic for the band, albeit he also uses some texts from other authors or some indian or medieval poetry.
Psí Vojáci Mučivé vzpomínky (skladby z let 1987-89)
This is a collection of live recordings from years 1987-89. In late 1980s the band started to perform under a pseudonym P.V.O. (Dog Soldiers in Person) and the Prague Junior Club Na Chmelnici became their home stage. They didn`t play under their full name because of the problems with Czech secret police.
Sound of the record is surprisingly very good and clean. This album perfectly shows where they were musically in that period, mostly playing as a trio (piano/voc, bg, dr), occasionally with guests (here: trumpet in 1 song and alt-sax in 1 song). Their underground piano rock is very original not only in Czechoslovak scene, perfectly using a contrast between rich and sometimes jazzy piano melodies and rock rhytmics. And they have strong leader in the person of Filip Topol, generally singing his own poetry.
Live version of PV`s big hit "Ziletky" is also present here.
Psí Vojáci Live I. & II.
What is special on this 2 CD is that songs that are here you can`t find on any of studio albums (except 2 songs). Albums were recorded on 4 concerts in 1993, when it seemed the band will soon split up after departure of bassist Jan Hazuka, one of the three founding members. They took these concerts as their last and they put lot of energy in it, showing their most rock face here I think.
Psí Vojáci Brutální lyrika
Very typical album for Psi Vojaci, with piano as a leading instrument and very precise rhytmics. The band is not losing any of its qualities here, still in great form. Maybe some of the songs in second half are little bit too long and repetitive, not so strong as first three tracks. I think this is longest PV album (ends with more than 23 minutes long song).
Anyway, Filip Topol is great composer as well as excellent pianist and singing poet and he has great band behind him, too.

Darkness of the Darkness, from the Depths of Hell. Excellent split of Ritual(OR) and Fossilization (BRA). Ritual is here with 15 minutes track of high (doom) death quality, Fossi adds another two really brutal DM tracks. Both bands have real deep growlers and fits together perfectly.

Ruins Tzomborgha
This is a tenth album by Japanese band Ruins, their last as a bass and drums duo. This band always makes me happy, what is sometimes a welcome change after all that serious and depressive metal music I am listening for most of time :-).
I can still remember their concert maybe 20 years ago on one small underground festival in Brno, CZ... you should see the people... nobody really knew them but after few quick songs there were nobody who would not have a big smile on his face and a good, good time. Their enthusiasm, precision and craziness got everybody, me included. I don`t know their entire discography, but this one works perfect for me... two virtuos musicians are ruining all common rules in making music and I can feel they still have a big joy of creating it in their very special way. People try to put them in some box like experimental rock, math rock, zeuhl, noise rock, whatever (I can add some more: crazy fusion or jazz punk)... the fact is they are just extraordinary and surely not for everyone. Anarchy supported by big discipline and perfection ... non-sense? I don`t think so...
Do you know they wanted to start a band as a trio back in 1985, but guitarist didn`t come to their first rehearsal, so they made a band without him :-) ?
P.S.: They even have Black Sabbath medley and Mahavishnu Orchestra medley at the end of the album... you should really check it out!

Sepultura Schizophrenia
Sound of the record is not very good, but material is brilliant and original, staying more in touch with death metal than later albums. My favorites: To the Wall and Escape to the Void.

Spermbirds Common Thread
I once had this on casette. Now I listened to it after long long time (2006 reissue with 3 bonus tracks) and they got me again! This is first Spermbirds album where they changed their style from classical fast hc/punk into melodic hc more influenced by metal, they aren`t losing their punk feeling and melodics, but it`s more about riffs, songs are longer (2 of them even more than 4 minutes). Singer is excellent again, one of the best in the whole scene. Spermbirds were always one of classic hc/punk bands for me, however, they are not so well known as they deserve, maybe because they are from Germany and not USA.

Virgin Black Requiem - Fortissimo
After the smooth "Mezzo Forte", this can be shocking experience for some. While staying in the same concept, "Fortissimo" shows the darker side of the band.
Extremely slow death/doom (or funeral doom) style and brutal growls are the base of this record; orchestra, choir and soprano are supplemental here, helping to build majestical atmosphere, anyway they are still taking this album to higher levels. Some of the beautiful melodies of its predecessor are present also here - "Requiem, Kyrie" theme that opened last album is used at the end of the record here. But if the dominant feeling of "Mezzo Forte" was sorrowful beauty, here it is more likely desperate darkness.
Some people may like "Mezzo Forte" and not like "Fortissimo", few others contrarily. For me, I find both releases extraordinary, one supplementing the other (in fact there should be three parts of Requiem, regrettably "Piano" was never released).

Dark side of Amorphis and I enjoy it a lot! Recorded one year before debut LP, but released one year after, it shows the roots of this well known band. They lay deep in the underground death/doom territory, what reminds of another band with similar history, guess which one (its name also starts with letter A)... Amorphis stayed little more metal than Anathema anyway.
Most of the songs were re-recorded for Karelian Isthmus LP, but even these tracks sound more brutal and rough here. In fact, I like both records, Isthmus is better produced and more melodical, but this one will crush your skull.

Antimatter Alternative Matter
Very sensitively compiled summary of 10 year career of Antimatter, containing some demo, acoustic and live versions of their songs plus some remixes. Released in 2 version, as 2 CD and deluxe edition with bonus EP and DVD and 100 pages artbook, it combines both acoustic rock and electronic / trip hop faces of the band. Songs with expressive male vocal prevail, but there are also female vocals used. Calm melancholy - it`s the over-all feeling this music has.
Note: it is quite unusual to start an album with cover version, but in this case I think it was a good decision with Dead Can Dance song Black Sun. (There is also Depeche Mode cover on bonus CD and two Anathema songs.)

So this sounds as if Kurt Cobain rose from the grave, and on the way he had a blast with a young Nick Cave, on the way they got slapped by Henry Rollins, and in total desperation they called in Justin Broadrick and Godflesh rhythms for help, just to create a bleak, gloomy, rebellious, misanthropic and somewhat adolescent noise rock sludge album... suitable for lonely hearts and souls... definitely a very interesting record that has a decent chance to break through, especially in America.

Can please smbd who is better in English write a regular review for this remarkable release? I can only say it has 7 songs, each of 7 minutes, full of pessimistic and gloomy atmosphere filled with mix of proggressive death doom metal and a lot of ideas and energy. Best release in metal for me in 2022 so far. (And singer reminds me of Chuck Schuldiner's voice for most of time :-)
Definetily worth for more listens.

Darkthrone Panzerfaust
It`s said there are three classic DT albums, in fact I think there are four, "Panzerfaust"
shouldn`t be bypassed.
Sure, it is not so consistent as "Transilvanian" (but "Under" was neither), even when it starts
with track that sounds similar - you will find one more reminder here. Rest of the record is
slower and more doom(/death) influenced, or Celtic Frost influenced if you want. Why not, when
they take it to the new level of misanthropic darkness. Main change is in riffs, they`ve never
been so heavy before. Vocals are just loud and brutal. All thing ends with atmospheric outro,
spoken vocal used.
It`s really hard to believe that any band could release 4 classic records in 4 years, DarkThrone
just did it.
Darkthrone The Underground Resistance
Darkthrone Soulside Journey
When this was released, death metal fans pricked up their ears, because debut album from Norwegian group Dark Throne (I think they were using this form of their name at that time) was very promising, bringing another great band to nascent Swedish death metal scene. Everybody knows what happened later, Swedish scene were left on its own...rAfter more than 20 years, "Soulside Journey" is still very interesting to listen - in fact I think it`s one of the best death metal records of early nineties. DT were capable to create one original record with strong and heavy sound (Sunlight). In their songs there are many changes of pace, mostly going in mid-quick or doom/death slow tempos with strong atmosphere, that is sustained by use of keyboards (maybe they could use it even more). Unlike Entombed, who helped them to get into the studio, they are less straightforward, trying to use more complicated structures of songs. Among an instruments, drums are standing out, Fenriz plays very technically here. On the other hand, Nocturno is better as black metal vocalist and album becomes slightly eventless after few songs... they are quite similar in guitar riffs.rAll in all, this is interesting album for both black and death metal fans.

Debustrol Neuropatolog
This is straight and aggressive thrash metal with little black metal influence that takes no prisoners here. Album was recorded only in 7 days and with minimum studio experience, but sound of the record is very good surprisingly, maybe could be less clean and more aggressive. "Neuropatolog" contains a mix of older songs from their "Vyznani smrti" demo (1988) and new material, that continues in similar way as older songs bringing same or even higher quality. Lyrics are in Czech language, rebelling against society, war/army and christianity. This album was one of the very first metal releases after the so called velvet revolution, as before it was not possible (and even dangerous to play metal) to record an LP for any band communists didn`t aproved. After all that years, it`s still enjoyable listen for me and it should satisfy any thrash fan, check it out if you can!
Debustrol Apokalismus
Aggressive, primitive, excellent
Shortest and most hateful DEBUSTROL record. First one, where thrash and groove take same parts... maybe there`s more groove than thrash. Anyway, it seems to me that this are songs primarily aimed for live playing.
I could compare this to Cavalera Conspiracy, but this was recorded about 10 years before. Tracks about 2 and a half minutes, controversial, non correct and aggresive lyrics (in Czech mostly).
What else to say... they have some crazy BS cover of War Pigs called simply Svine (Pigs).

Deliverance (FR) Neon Chaos in a Junk-Sick Dawn
Really very interesting third album by the French Deliverance, which is very difficult to classify
stylistically. I would say that it's 50% black metal, 40% sludge metal, but also other influences
from psychedelic rock, doom metal to post-metal... but that's not important, the important thing
is that this record has its originality and quality, and in addition to black paint, it's also
dominated by slow sludge stuff, such as 2 monumental approx. 18-minute tracks no. 3 and no. 6. I
really like it!

I think this is exceptional album in Slovak DM scene. Basically, it is technical death metal with lot of growls, blast beats and double bass, but it also contains huge trace of melodic death metal, even some progressive elements too. Guitars and vocals (two guest vocalists) are varified, u can find some beautiful guest solo in track 7... just excellent record for my ears.

Impaled Nazarene Latex Cult
Abdicating of any effort to create some more slower and melodic tracks with strong atmosphere (as on Suomi Finland Perkele), they create an album, which is defining their style up to the present days. They strongly return to the core: grind, crust and hc/punk mixed with original 80s thrash/black metal, all played simple, fast and furious in their very own fashion, what is highly positive, of course. Unluckily, band`s production becomes quite monotonuos, constant fast pace, one song similar to another, nearly no space for diversity left... Song, which is croping out on "Latex Cult" is "Motorpenis", strongly inspired by guess who (bg even plays some kind of solo here, anyway, bg is excellent throughout whole album again as before!). Another favorites: intro and good start with "Karmakeddon Warriors", catchy punk "Violence I Crave" (Satan I obey...), which goes next, and the last one.
Excellent album, although I expected even more talent expressed after "Ugra" and "Suomi"...
Impaled Nazarene Pro Patria Finlandia
Another great collection of love songs (check "Contempt" lyrics e.g.) by Impaled Nazarene. They really do not slow down here...
Impaled Nazarene All That You Fear
One of the finest releases in IN new era. It doesn`t suffer from monotony so much as some previous (and it`s over 40 min long!), alternating medium speed and very fast songs, and it has tones of melodies while staying brutal, band`s style is finely edged here into a sort of melodic black metal with big amount of musicalness.
"Armageddon Death Squad" is surely a hit, hey, why they don`t play it on the radio ???

Mayhem Esoteric Warfare
Second best Mayhem album after... guess which? "Ordo ad Chao" of course! It was probably really impossible to go further (in music), so I can understand Blasphemer`s decision to leave. rTeloch, new guitarist and composer, had extremely hard job to replace him. I think he did excellent and I enjoy his futuristic (Voivod-like?) style. Attila and Hellhammer are both absolutely exceptional artists and with help of firm Necrobutcher they all created one extra strong LP with perfect production, too. They are further developing their original avantgarde and psychedelic black metal style, which is very technical and brutal at the same time, furiously speeding in one moment and desperately crawling in another. Several pauses in music flow can make a man nervous, but maybe that`s just what they wanted... rSo this is great comeback after 7 years and it is said they`re in best concert shape in history, really sad that I missed them.
Mayhem Wolf's Lair Abyss
Here begins what can be called Blasphemer`s era of Mayhem. And it starts impressive, with this extremely aggressive and hateful EP, which is by that time with both feet deep in the orthodox black metal, but there are also some indications of incoming changes present there. I am not big fan of Maniac`s shrieks, but it quite fits here.
Mayhem Chimera
Mayhem returns obediently back to black metal box, which was too small for them in precedent LP. Yes, they are still able to make extraordinary record, harsh and aggressive within very good production, but this approach seems to me to be too comfortable for such a talented musicians and little bit boring in the effect.
Mayhem Deathcrush
This is nice ugly chaos from those early days when thrash death and black were just living under one roof. Original in some ways but not so far from Bestial Devastation (Sepultura) for example and surely not comparable to "Under the Sign..." released few months before...
Mayhem Ordo ad Chao
It takes some time to get into this album, because it is no easy listen. Not only because its rough production, but primarily because music itself. It is dark, apocalyptic and deranged (Attila..., he also wrote himself a lyrics, check Psychic Horns for example), technically challenging (drums are absolutely unbelievable here) and with no gives and takes in band`s artistic expression. As a result, they create one petrifying masterpiece of black metal... and word doom is also proper here, as the Wall of Water is getting nearer and nearer...
Mayhem Live in Leipzig
Mörkhimmel Genium Obskurity
Mean Messiah Divine Technology
Meat Shits Ecstasy of Death
Improved playing while still remaining one ugly disgusting and most hated band across the genres. There is even some experimentation with electronic here (it`s only the drum machine, but who cares). I really don`t think this could be issued in f**king 2015, our life really changed a little in a kind of distopic paranoic future described in books like "1984" or "Brave New World".

Nocturnus Thresholds
Noise Unit Grinding Into Emptiness
Cooperation of Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly) and Marc Verhaeghen (Klinik). Stylistically very clean electro-industrial, cold and dehumanized. Beats used here are crushing. Album ends with great dark ambient in "The End".
Noise Unit Strategy of Violence
Noise Unit Response Frequency
NU developes further what they played on their debut, that means cold, dehumanized and dark electro industrial. On this one they are trio Leeb, Fulber (Front Line Assembly) and Verhaeghen (Klinik), what brought them sound that is more dense and varied. One of the best albums I listened to from this kind of music.

Nothingness Supraliminal
Novembers Doom The Novella Reservoir
Nuclear Assault The Plague
With combination of new and old material, The Plague continues in the way of "Game Over" LP.
Another portion of classic crossover thrash, and again some perfect starter instrumental called "Game Over". Little confusing...
Anyway, biggest controversy came with "Butt Fuck" song dedicated to Vince Neil`s car accident, driving while intoxicated and killed his passenger (drummer Razzle of Hanoi Rocks) and also permanently injured passengers in the car he hit.
Lilker stated: We thought he should've gone to prison and got anally raped... We made the whole thing funny, but we meant it.
Nuclear Assault Brain Death
Great start from a great band
First official release by Nuclear Assault contains three fully thrashing songs of high quality.
Brain Death is probably longest song in their career, beginning quite innocently with acoustic intro, followed by some bass interlude, but than starts no mercy thrash. Help me, save me, as I take my last breath! This song was later used to end their debut LP.
Furious and various riffing with some good solos, Lilker`s energetic bass play plus devastating drums and yelling vocalist, which can also create good melodies. Excellent debut EP from an excellent band!
Nuclear Assault Good Times, Bad Times
Burning Flying Zeppelin
Good choice of a cover song. Of course, it is not possible to substitute Robert Plant`s vocals, but John Connelly`s performance is OK in this type of version. Hardered version of course, and still not losing its charm.
Rest of this single contains crazy chaotic live tracks in nuclear speed, yeah I like it so much! And last one is just a bit of relief after all that thrash-speed-core madness. Great again as anything from NA until 1989! And great Led Zep tribute cover too!
Nuclear Assault Live at the Hammersmith Odeon
Released in 1992, but recorded on April 1989, when the band was in its life form. As I like any of their records until 1989, I am satisfied with this live record too, though generally I prefer studio albums.
First eight songs are their longer classics from all of their releases. End of the show brings more crazy atmosphere with short thrashcore tracks, by which they were famous too. Sound is just live, quite rough, but surely not terrible.
Great album for any NA fan.

Psí Vojáci Sestra (Jáchym Topol & Psí Vojáci)
This is cooperation of Topol brothers Filip (leader of PV) and J?chym (writer), whose texts from book of the same title (Sestra, Sister in English) are used as lyrics. This time, Filip plays on synthetiser instead of piano, what is quite unusual for the band.
Psí Vojáci Psi a vojáci / Baroko v Čechách / Studio 1983-85
This is very important compilation for everybody, who is interesting in Czech underground music scene before 1989, as Psi Vojaci (Dog Soldiers) were one of the most outstanding and original groups of that time. It contains the oldest material of the group and perfectly illustrates the atmosphere of dreariness ruling the life of many "other thinking" people in socialistic Czechoslovakia.
First CD "Psi a vojaci" is a concert from 11-29-1980 in Plzen, CS. Second CD "Baroko v Cechach" is a studio album recorded in November, 1982. Third CD "Studio 1983-85" is a studio album recorded in 1985.
"When i was composing Baroko v Cechach on my brother`s lyrics in an age of 16, I was totally down because of the regime. I wanted to write such a dark music, that all comunists would cut their throats of it." Filip Topol, Psi Vojaci.

Sepultura Roots
One of the most brutal and hateful records of metal (and also probably one of the most rcontroversial, what I can understand) with full hardcore feeling, primitive and cut to the bone, respecially in guitar play, really trying to go back to the roots as much as possible. It`s also rvery experimental album including lot of percussions and world music instruments. They have many rinteresting guests on album like Mike Patton, DJ Lethal, Xavantes tribe and especially Carlinhos rBrown, Brazilian musician, co-autor of Ratamahatta - this song is just unbelievable, it`s a burst!rThis is music that comes not from the upper class brownstone houses but from the poors ghettos, rnot from neon-lighted cities but Amazon wildforest and aboriginal fires.r(I have digipack version with 3 bonus tracks instead of hidden jungle track.)

Sieta is a folk metal project by Aleksandr Mokin. Its first album "Novgorod" tells a story about the baptism of Rus, combining black and folk elements. The lyrics for the album are written in Old Russian and Old Church Slavonic. Excellent and interesting debut, especially when considering Aleksandr was playing before in death metal band Skyglow.

This is quite rare split CD, where you can find 4 songs from legendary Swedish death metal band Grave. One of them is Into the Grave, title track of their debut album. 4,5
Other two bands are from UK. Deviated Instinct has released 3 albums and 3 EPs before this split CD, started as anarcho / crust punk band, going more on metal side here. In fact, their slow hardcore with extreme metal influences sounds to me like some proto-sludge record here. 3,5
Devolution`s 3 tracks are their only official release. They played sort of technical thrash / death here with some quick and straightforward aggressive parts. Great too. 3,5

...and Oceans The Dynamic Gallery of Thoughts
This symphonic black metal album full of keyboards is perfect background when lying in my bed with book in my hands, just going to sleep... and loud listening is even better!
...and Oceans A.M.G.O.D.
This is great and courageous realease, emanating from their elder symphonic black style, but taking it to new dimensions by including some industrial and dance-electronic elements. Unfortunately, it`s not so consistent as could be, what is a common price for experimentation, and last track is pure techno and I quite don`t understand why it is here. Very interesting record though!

Another great technical DM band from USA and their second LP. Unusual is, that it is not only hyper=speed TDM as a lot of band produce, but there are mostly longer compositions often connected by intros, in middle tempo (double bass going mad sometimes) combined with quicker and blastbeat passages of course too. And it is full of riffs and melodies, especially in solos.

Atrocity is really confusing band, excellent in one moment and poor in another. So is this
album.
It starts very promising with impressive symphonic death metal song with strong atmosphere
Reich of Phenomenna, but manages to keep its quality and aggresivity in only few other songs (or
parts of them). Their style is actually hard to define: you will find here features of gothic
metal, industrial with some sampling and programming, and something like a tv-radio-metal shit
unluckily too (track 8). Instrumentally it is very good, production is OK with very low guitar
sound, vocals (also female from time to time) too, drums are great, album concept is
interesting... this just should be excellent album... but it is only good because of that
confusion.
In my opinion they did their best at first two albums playing technical death metal.

Cavalera Conspiracy Inflikted
True spirit of thrash and hardcore rebellion, perfect chemistry between Cavalera brothers (and rest of the band), it`s simple, it`s spontaneous and it`s excellent. I put this record immediately in back of Sepultura`s golden era (from Beneath... to Roots). And lyrics? You know, it`s not for high brows, but good for me as a person from non-english speaking country... fuck art, let`s kill!

Dark Tranquillity Character
Dark Tranquillity Fiction
There are some styles in metal music I`m not very comfortable with: f.e. metalcore, symphonic black or... melodic death. Even though, I must admit there are some good bands in every of these categories. After listening to "Fiction" I can say Dark Tranquility is one of such bands.
Dark Tranquillity Skydancer
Darkspace Minus One
Darkthrone Total Death
Darkthrone came with another full-length only half year after "Panzerfaust". Their fantastical productivity had to take its tax, as this album didn`t reach qualities of previous ones.
I just couldn`t find the strength they had before, although their abilities to create harsh and crude black metal were still present here. It seems to me they tried to go back in history and recorded one old-school record, where you can find even some thrash influence (especially in "Blasphemer", I don`t think it is very good song) and crust-punk feeling (honestly, Impaled Nazarene are better on this ground in my opinion).
When not looking at their best, this is still great album. (Note: guitar is played here by Nocturno and Fenriz focused on drums and bass.)

Debustrol Protest live!
Debustrol Vyhlazení
Fourth standard full length by DEBUSTROL is defined by an effort to recover their reputation as top-level czech thrash metal band. Namely because of their previous release, which repulsed bulk of their fans, and didn`t even mean commercial succes they maybe hoped to achieve with it.
I can say they mainly succeeded and returned to their thrash metal roots. Music is in a similar way as on their debut, maybe not with so many superb songs, but it is well played and creates more than solid thrash album.
Curiosity: they absolved foto session for "Vyhlazeni" ("Extermination") in Osviencim (Auschwitz) and had an appaling impression from that. Lyrics are in Czech language, dealing with themes like war crimes or slaying madmen.
Good restart for a band!
Debustrol Pád do hrobu mrtvol
Line-up changes, but similar music with only a few experiments.
Although two classic line-up members leaved DEBUSTROL before recording this album, it goes in similar way as its predecessor, so quick and aggressive thrashing reigns here for most time. They also have more tracks here, that are short and quick (7 of 15 songs are shorter than two and half minutes).
Anyway, on this album you can hear first hints of their later inclination to more groove oriented thrash metal, as well as some minor experimentations with guitars play (rare use of acoustic and Machine Head-like squeaking), or use of children`s choir in title song.

So much better in comparison to their first demo, loaded death/thrash gun. Improved sound, even if still harsh (in CS there really were only few really good studios, too expensive for independent band).Unluckily, theare two songs that are pure thrash and doesn fit so much into album.
Lyrics about concretation camps, death, hate in between people an such a sweet things :-).
On live shows they were better than on any records.

This demo is brutal, sound is of course not very good, i think this is most brutal and raw relese from them.
I would not call it melodic Dm, maybe as a influence. This was OSDM, and no black influences, no. I have seen them many times live in good old days.

I really don`t know how this album got into my mp3 archives among all that metal stuff... I usually don`t listen to this kind of music, but their dark wave / synth pop is nice after all, with smooth and melancholic atmosphere, sometimes getting more dark, with some EBM elements. And those are the moments when I like it the most.

Great gothic rock album, that is not ridiculous or embarrassing. They are treading proudly in the steps of such giants of the genre as Sisters of Mercy ("Vision Thing" album), Fields of the Nephilim or The Cult. Maybe not so original, but very enjoyable. Elusive are able to write strong songs, album is well produced and they have a great vocalist too (he even reminds me of Jim Morrison in some moments - track 5 f.e.).

Hypocrisy Pleasure of Molestation EP
This EP, released between first two longplays, contains 4 excellent death metal tracks. They really do not compromise here. No intro, instant death from the start.
Sound of the record is more rough than on LP, but I like it little more this way, because that`s what shows these songs can stand firmly on their brutally scarved death metal feet. They just go more wild and underground. Track 4 is a real filthy doomy pig, remaining me of some Autopsy work also.
All 4 tracks were later re-recorded on Osculum Obscenum LP.

Impaled Nazarene Vigorous And Liberating Death
Another portion of crust black by IN comes 4 years after their last LP. It`s great again and unique amongst other black metal bands, but standard in their discography. They seem to be going back to more rough sound (especially compared to 2000-2003 albums), but no big change is heard and they are repeating one thing that takes quality down a little: good beginning and end of the record (but last track is not so exceptional as on some previous, though slower and longer), and not so good in the middle. "Road to the Octagon" was little better I think, anyway, it`s fine to have them back...
Impaled Nazarene Motörpenis
Short and entertaining trip to IN`s dirty black`n`roll with two own songs + three punk cover versions. Bass player imitates Lemmy and even plays some sort of solo in title track!
Impaled Nazarene Goat Perversion
Impaled Nazarene Rapture
Declining trend continues, really monotonous and nearly 40 minutes long (what is more than standard half an hour on foregoing LPs) slightly blackened crust punk/grind (mostly by vocal), even bg is not so shining as before. Good thing is they are still recognizable, drums are OK and some intensity is left also.
Edit (June 2015): Their worst? Still beating many bands on its best, full of hellish energy! Punk as hell! Half star plus.
Impaled Nazarene Road to the Octagon
Angel rectums under attack... yes, Impaled Nazarene are penetrating again! One of their best albums from 1996 I think, with all ingrediencies added into Lucifer`s cauldron: old school thrash, black, crust punk/grind, performed with hypercosmic speed, spiced with band`s typical nastiness ... Bon apetit!
Impaled Nazarene Nihil
Little better and more black metal than previous album (tr.5 Post Eclipse Era is even slower, longer and quite atmospheric), but still one of their weaker in discography I think... But you know, in fact I like all their releases.
The only IN release with Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) on guitar.
Impaled Nazarene Eight Headed Serpent
Album Nr. 13 from these finnish maniacs sounds really great. I have always liked their energy and crust-punk influence in their music. I dont know, but I also always feel that these guys dont take themselves too seriously and that is cool.

Album starts just where Wolf`s Lair EP ends, but that`s the only similarity besides lyrical concept. "GDoW" is very brave experiment which is succesful only partly, and I understand this had to be great diasppointment for some older fans of band. Mainly because you won`t find nearly no classic black metal here. What you`ll find here is dark electronic for example, lot of tempo breaks and spoken (or maybe preached) vocals, and very clean production. First half of the album seems very impressive to me (tracks 1-5), I quite like accept dark electro in Bloodsword and a Colder Sun, but then I don`t find much interesting things hapenning and hollow feeling is enhanced by silence before end.
So or so, it`s still great album with some really fantastic moments.

I give high rating because of Mayhem version of Future Breed Machine (tr. 3). The name of the version is absolutely eloquent (nothing to do w/ Mayhem band). It`s slowed down, industrialized and more than 8 minutes long repetitive massacre. If you can survive this played loud, you are a big candidate for surviving the end of the world. Sane (tr. 1) and Future live (tr. 2) are normal versions, both excellent songs (is it really live? sounds absolutely perfect), campfire version called Futile Bread Machine (tr. 4) is just fun, nothing for me actually, but I like electronic hidden tracks.

This is relly harsh as hell. Right after 131 seconds long dungeon synth intro follows crazy 12 minutes black opus "cosmic lunacy" with absolutely insane ending of the track... big portion of rough black metal, riffs, noise and screams. And the guys(?) dont stop doin noise and riffing and shrieking any further. Little bit repetitive after 20 minutes, but good for the morning cofee I think. Dungeon synth outro...of course.
Resume: 35 minutes of esoteric depressive black/noise release just for those w/ a strong stomach.

Nice live album with classic NA line-up, from their 2002 reunion for some concerts.
Yes, this is a great live set with most of their best songs, but I can`t rid off the feeling, that this release is quite unnecessary... it really brings nothing new.
Fifteen (or more) years old songs played in classic line-up will probably gratify their old fans, and maybe some newcomers too.

We have another so-called supergroup here w/ Jim Matheos - guitars (Fates Warning), Mike Portnoy - drums (ex- Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment etc.) and Kevin Moore - keyboards, vocals (ex- Fates Warning, Dream Theater). Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) helping on bass in some songs.
I really like kind of melancholy mood this band is able to create. And I also like unusual vocals, which many people seems to have a problem with. Decent use of electronics is also OK. And at last, their music has its own face. They do no instrumental race here, focusing on writing consistent songs.

The eighth album by one of the the founders of the German singing offshoot of industrial and alternative metal Neue Deutsche Hrte, this time with accesible gothic metal touch again. The first I hear from Mutter, that is, after 21 years. And you know what? I quite like it, although it is little more commercially built, but very professionally made and with excellent sound.

First LP by SEPULTURA has its own special charm, they are so honest here in playing so fast and hard as possible. You can easily detect here some elements that would make them one of the biggest thrash acts in the near future. Every fan of thrash and death metal music should know this, `cause style they played was branded at those times as thrash/death .

Another of Sunlight studio productions, not among the best swedish death metal classics, still worthy for a regular listen. It was recorded only in 4 days and it can be considered as a typical record of swedish death metal of those early years. Reedition from 2006 includes two demo recordings.
Founded in 1986, this band surely had a big influence at establishing swedish death metal scene.

Soulgrind Pakana
Though often classified as black metal band, they take more influences from gothic and death/doom metal, combining it in their own way. You surely won`t find no black blast tempos here, record goes mainly in mid-tempos and it is very melodical with lead female vocal alternating with black metal male vocal. Soulgrind is a band that definitely deserves attention because they are quite unique and have enough creative abilities and musical skills plus interesting lyrics.

Quite good, maybe even great technical/brutal DM, in very tradition of polish DM scene.
Great musicianship and lot of brutality in it, but sounds little bit monotonous for me, tracks are quite similar to each other. I miss some more originality.
Anyway, I like it a lot, as a critician, i would give u 6 points out of ten, as a friend i give 7 :-).

...and Oceans Cypher
I agree with those who say they should have changed their name already by this release, because it would be a very good start for a new band, but little bit disappointing as ...and Oceans album. There is not much from their black past and originality left, Cypher sounds more like another industrial metal band and often seems to me I`ve already heard it somewhere. Repetition is normal part of this kind of music, but some tracks are tiresome (especially no.3). Anyway, I like the sound, it`s heavy enough.
All in all, this is a good album in spite of all my reservations, and surely a must for industrial metal fans.

Agathodaimon Blacken the Angel
The album starts very promising with excellent melody in first song. Unluckily, this stays the strongest moment of all album and as the running time goes there is nothing more to surprise me in a positive way. Writing more than 15 minutes long song (tr. 3) really needs some stronger composition. Well, the last song is a good closer (I think they are strongest in slower melodic passages). Some songs between could calmly stay in a studio.
Symphonic and (very) melodic black mostly in mid and slow tempos (in quick passages they are not very convincing) with some doom / gothic feeling... not so great and maybe too long, but still listenable!
Agathodaimon Chapter III
Their best of three I`ve heard, good production, more quick tempos, improved playing and reasonable length... anyway, band should have more than 3.5 points when on its best, or???
Edit: half point down for lack of originality.
Agonoize Evil Gets an Upgrade
Aggrotech (also called harsh EBM, terror EBM or hellektro) is probably most aggressive style in electronic music. Agonoize, as a typical band from this subgenre, shows why: merciless techno beats, repetitiveness and distorted vocals create together dark and apocalyptic atmosphere. Way too monotonous, as they have 3 versions of first two tracks on this EP, still good demonstration what aggrotech is like.
Amon Amarth Deceiver of the Gods
Amon Amarth The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter
Amon Amarth The Great Heathen Army
Amorphia Lethal Dose
Amorphis Disment of Soul (demo)
They have 3 old school death metal tracks here, with very tenebrous atmosphere, which is supported by deep sepulchral `aaarrrggghhh` vocal and use of slower (doom/death) tempos and keyboards. I could compare it to Dark Throne`s death metal debut Soulside Journey, but not reaching its quality, after all, it is self/made demo tape. Two of the songs are later re-recorded on Privilege of Evil EP.
It`s really unbeliavable how they have changed since that early days...

Denet Oslavy Zla (demo)
First demo of this pioneering Death/Thrash band from former Czechosolovakia.
The sound is very rough, lo-fi, but the track are built very well, easy to remeber and Catchy. You can here influence from early Death or Sepultura records.
They were very good especially live, playing with bands like Samael, Loudblast, Massacra (FR) or S.D.I., and of course tens of live shows with other bands from Czechoslovakia.

Not so great for normal listening, but still OK, with great opening track w/ John Petrucci on guitar (most jazz-fusion here I think) and not very good second track sung by Zakk Wylde. The rest is just good instrumental prog (perfect instrumentally, of course) and the last one only funny bonus (feat. Slash and Billy Idol).

Two classic punk songs (Dead Kennedys, The Exploited) played by classics of swedish (melodic if you want...) death metal. Why not? It`s OK, Hypocrisy added its heavy sound and showed enough energy on this single, on the other hand, it`s nothing special I think.

Impaled Nazarene Absence of War Does Not Mean Peace
This is pretty different IN, with untraditionally melodic guitars (only album w/ Somnium of Finntroll) and clean production, what is possibly not the best option for the band long known for its roughness and aggresiveness. Music is more thrash and punk than black metal, heavy metal (!) influences are heard also, tempos are not so furiously fast (but there are some of course). All in all, this one may displease some fans of brutal way, but I take it as a welcome change in IN`s extensive discography.
Impaled Nazarene Manifest
IN = automatic guarantee of merciless beating... OK, they have some melodies too, most frequently of hc/punk breed, implemented into their black/grind style. Another solid album, longest in their career, what may be a slight disadvantage in their case.

First half of this CD are live tracks from GDoW Tour 2000, second half are pre-production tracks from GDoW sessions. Live part is OK (although nothing special) I think with classic old songs predominating. I quite don`t understand the meaning of releasing half-finished tracks (second half), in fact don`t differ so much from album versions, but some big fans of GDoW (there aren`r so many I guess) may find it interesting.

I`m not too much into melodic death metal, but this one surprised me positively. Enough variability, good riffing, melodies that don`t bother me for the most part, nice futuristic keyboards, welcome bit of progressive, and excellent drumming.

Nuclear Assault Third World Genocide
Comeback albums use to be problematic. So it is in this case.
I`m afraid, they returned mostly to their weakest album "Out of Order", not to excellent and consistent (!) first three, nor creating something new and refreshing.
Anyway, it is listenable due to good sound and some strong moments, but their ability to write real great song was lost somewhere during the time. They just pick up something from this and something from that, and it doesn`t work when you want to create album, that could be compared to their best.
But it is not catastrophe either, I`m just fine that I could hear some other release from them.
Nuclear Assault Something Wicked
This a solid heavy / thrash metal record. Unluckily, after important line-up changes on bass and guitar, this doesn`t keep the spirit of Nuclear Assault alive. More melodies, more grooves, longer songs, and only a very little of that uncompromising aggresiveness they had on their classic records. So main touching point with their great past is only Bramante`s vocals.

I don`t think this album is so bad as often rated.
OK, I agree that there should be more technical thrash passages, quick tempos, and less slower groove parts that are used too frequently and not very original. But on the other hand, even if songwriting is not so strong, this record offers great musicianship (Steve DiGiorgio is one unique bass player, excellent as ever). Use of synths enriches the album too and sound is great in my opinion.
So this was no waste of time for me, good comeback album.

Shaark Sinn Fein
Debut album from Czech/Moravian thrash legend Shaark. After three demos and lot of live shows finally came this. Unluckily, as normal in 95, some groove influenced their thrash metal with crossover feeling.
It a solid release though, sound and musicianships are great, but they were not able to bring their full live energy into this record. Some tracks are not as good as others, so album is little bit unballanced.
Anyway, very good groove-thrash-crossover record.
Shade Empire Zero Nexus
Extra half star for second part of the last song with nice melody and use of saxophone. This album has some good parts, but it`s quite average melodic death metal with some sympho black influence and seldom used female vocal.

Debut album of the DM pack from Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. An honest, old-school DM, but you
don't need to expect any big miracles or surprises of it. The sound is on a level, the musicians
are also, what is a little missing is the stamp of originality. As a result, great album, even if
it still lacks something to be excellent, mainly fresh ideas, originality and, for me, a bigger
dose of frenzy.

Well played and well produced power / prog metal album with some symphonic metal passages. Unluckily, not much more to say here, because it is also absolutely ordinary with no surprises or originality. Some songs are too long. In fact, I had a problem to listen to whole record at once, waiting when this finally ends.
Resume : too long and boring.

Garden of Delight (or G.O.D.) is experienced band formed in 1990, GER, and this is their 17th album out of 18 (!), but first I listened to. One of their weakest following some sources, and I am not entranced either. Nor disgusted anyway...
It`s a collection of simple gothic rock songs with electro-industrial elements in sound (they use a drum machine), sometimes with good ideas and interesting effects, sometimes not. Vocals are important in this style, again: not bad nor excellent, together with guitars taking it harder way occasionaly. My biggest complaint : album is too monotonuos and too long.

Bad news is, that this album meant an end to NA classic era. Good news is, that personal problems in the band led bassist Lilker to found new excellent band, Brutal Truth.
Music on this album is not completely bad, but very inconsistent, with weak songwriting. Not much of their blasting thrash stayed here. This is more like average HC band meeting some average thrash. Singing on some songs is really weak. At least they didn`t forget how to play on their instruments, some passages are still great.
Song 5 ends by pulling chain on toilette and unfortunately it describes quite well what this record does with their fans.

Great musicianship, but weak songwriting
I always felt kind of disappointment after listening to this album.
I have a feeling, that this guys are trying to play music too demanding for them. I don`t think they`re bad musicians, absolutely not. Problem lies in songwriting, you must be exceptional composer to excell in this kind of music (prog rock / hard rock). I don`t think they are, and result is then quite bothersome. Anyway, song 6 is charming.
This is the only record I know from them, but I don`t think I will look for another.

Metalcore I am able to listen to
Hmm... I`m no fan of metalcore to say first. But there are few things that changes my opinion to positive in this case.
First: vocals don`t annoy me as on the much of the records of this genre (even if they`re very similar from start to end). Second: undeniable (NY) hardcore feeling, but with way more melodic solos. Plus: catchy refrains. And third: I feel honesty and devotion to a kind of music they play.
Consistent record, what may also mean monotonous a little. That is the biggest flaw I think, songs are too similar.
Anyway, good effort guys!

For me, it`s hard to believe, that the same guitarist (Rune Eriksen aka Blasphemer) recorded and wrote something so excellent and uncompromising as Mayhem`s "Ordo ad Chao" and something so average as "The Silhouette" in the same year 2007. It`s obvious, where he left most of his creative powers.
Yes, it has great sound and production, but weak songwriting and no real innovative ideas were found. It has some strong moments but... i would expect more. Woman`s lead singing is also nothing extra (his wife Carmen), rest of the band just backing up. Anyway, maybe I will play it occassionaly because it`s more doom than gothic in my opinion and after all, they are able to create sort of melancholic atmosphere I like.

What should be this? Band stepped into wrong direction, what they admit today. This led to loss of major part of their fans, one way or another, metal boom in CzechoSlovakia was at its end (just like the common state, that was divided in 1993) and changing of style from solid thrash into some kind of weird rock made a year 1994 worst epoch in band`s career. This album made them look like they wanted only to earn some money on music... anyway, it was a bust. Musical and commercial too.

OK, metal scene in Slovakia (just after disunion of Czechoslovakia in 1992) were colapsing and these guys (my good friends anyway) tried to sell smth just to keep living from music.
