3.5 great
Weezer The Green Album
This album is one of the best albums of 2001 and definitely one of the best Weezer albums (except the Blue Album). But there are problems though. "Don't Let Go" is a stiff, almost mechanical song that sounds like it was made with a computer program and it is also very generic. I don't think it works well as an album opener, shoulda chosen Hash Pipe I think. Things kind of pick up with "Photograph" which is a decent enough pop rock song that has its moments.

Then there is something for surprise... "Hash Pipe!" This song is brilliant, and it's essentially a heavy metal song and arguably one of Rivers Cuomo's finest moments. I am a sucker for that descending vocal melody, it sends chills down my spine. Things go a little downhill after "Hash Pipe!" finishes with "Island in the Sun" which is a boring mainstream pop hit, it is a little too sugary for my taste (I'm diabetic haha)

But I will always be one of the defenders of "Crab." Next to "Hash Pipe," this song made the album for me. It's a hard rocker and the guitar work on this is absolutely phenomenal. This song is very impressive.

"Knock-Down Drag-Out" is a song reminiscent of the 1990s. It is a great combination of vocals and instrumentals, and Rivers' voice sounds great here! When things get too rock n' roll, "Smile" is there to lighten the mood and make you smile! It is insanely catchy and I always find myself humming the vocal melody, definitely one of the best songs of the decade. I personally skip "Simple Pages," a truly atrocious song that the Rivers Cuomo of 1995 would have vomited upon hearing.

"Glorious Day" and "O Girlfriend," two very heavy songs close the album.

In conclusion, Rivers Cuomo is a brilliant songwriter and this album is one of the best of 2000s. After the aftermath of Pinkerton, this album saved the day! Too bad they went downhill after Raditude...
