Buckethead Wishes |
Over the last year (2013) Mr.Bucket has released a mammoth 31 albums, often as a result of
this massive 'album override' quality has suffered with some albums (notably the pumpkin
pikes ) being nothing but noisy shards of ambient slunk. However amongst all these 'skin
piles' 'Wishes' is a gem, an album showcasing the Buckethead's immense musical acumen and
ability to create some of the the most ambiently emotive and touching songs human ears have
and possibly will ever know.
The album opener 'Ascending Soul' with its flurry of heavily reverbed notes sounds like a
million butterflies flapping their wings zipping around and about as if only to crash into
you. Its undeniably the most uplifting piece Buckethead has ever written.
'Sharing Space' sound almost too familiar. With their ambient sounds and slow trudging
guitars they could simply be placed into Electric Tears without anyone finding them alien
to the already more than a decade old seminal masterpiece of Buckethead wizardry.
The last track ,after which the album is titled, is pretty reminiscent of his Death Cube K
works, ambient sounds with the sole purpose of letting the listener know that its time to
say goodbye and that my work with this album must unfortunately for better or for worse
despite my wishes end. |

Slatsher Human Light Leakage |
A band's debut album always has the mammoth task of proving the bands mettle , more so in Metal which is task easily accomplished by Slatsher - a French Progressive/Death Metal band - with ease.
The first track ,aka 'Human error' begins with eerie bone chilling bird chirping with in the background what seems to be the sound of a crackling fire. The haunting bass followed by some wheepy guitars kick in. The drums give the song an amazingly tight albeit simplistic skeletal blast beat foundation. One can not help but be are sucked in to the album's deep, dense, jarringly claustrophobic atmosphere. The mood is set.
What follows this track is nothing but an album, relentless rage intertwined with beauitiful guitar work and exceptional songwriting. Guitarists Hugo and Yan deliver wildly enjoyable sonic dissonance sculpted with percussionist like texture and dexterity. The solos are fierce and yet extremely emotive , amost vulnerable at times.
The second track ,Vorarephilia, builds upon the album opener with more aggression and vacalist Rémi's deep mostrous growls.
The Faceless man at 8 minutes long is one of the most atmospheric songs in the album which showcases each of the band's members musical acumen and virtuosity to the finest.
The 11 track album ends the 'Great Loop' a surprisingly killer acoustic track for death metal band.
The review is poor I know that, but the album is a Magnum Opus. Give it a spin, i bet you will end up putiing it in a 'Great Loop' (so to say ;p)
