The Hold Steady Teeth Dreams
My experience The Hold Steady began with Heaven is Whenever. I thought it was solid debut
album, and then I realized it wasn't a debut album. First thing I should share in regards
to this album, is the fact that I listened to it through headphones. Best decision I ever
made. I feel like every song on this album is hit worthy, the only exception being Oaks, and
that is entirely due to the almost 9 minute run time, but worth every minute you spend
listening to it. The guitars are layered with perfection, and it's so much more evident
with headphones. The songs all still sound like stories coming to life, because the lyrics,
like previous efforts, contains so much detail. I don't want to skip any songs. It's one
of those albums, to me, that is like an experience. Like sitting down and putting on a
record, not as background music to a busy life, but music worth putting a busy life on hold.
While I feel as though Heaven is Whenever had some great songs, this is a great album.
People may not agree with me, but put on a pair of headphones, sit back, shut down and then
see what you think about it.
