While the concept of this album isn't anything groundbreaking, the songwriting and instrumentation are actually quite innovative and interesting, particularly in the album's first half. The main downfall of this album, albeit a small one, is that it begins to get repetitive near the end. Overall, though, this is a very strong release. "So So," "Brooklyn," and "Speak" are the highlights of the album for me.
Imogen Heap Speak For Yourself
Imogen Heap Ellipse
This album as a whole is just a tad weaker than Speak for Yourself, but it's nonetheless another very good album from Imogen Heap. The last three songs of the album - "The Fire," "Canvas," and "Half Life" - are some of my favorites she's ever released.

Sleeping at Last Atlas - Life
"Son" is a phenomenal song and possibly one of the best that Ryan has ever released. However,
while the other songs on this EP are good, they don't quite measure up to the brilliance of
"Son." I would say this is largely in part because Ryan resorts to lyrics that are unfortunately
somewhat contrived at times ("Life" and "Daughter" are both guilty of this). Overall, this is a
very good EP, but I was hoping it would be groundbreaking like some of Ryan's other EPs, so it
falls a bit short in my eyes.

3.0 good
Coldplay Ghost Stories
"O" is gorgeous and very reminiscent of Parachutes. Easily the highlight of the album. The rest, however, is very inconsistent - some good tracks, but there's a lot of lazy songwriting, especially on tracks like "A Sky Full of Stars."
Halsey Badlands
At times, Halsey's lyrics are a bit cliche and juvenile, but I think in a lot of ways, that's exactly why this album works relatively well. I see the narrative of this whole album as a girl new to adulthood who is just beginning to discover her niche in the world. For instance, if she wrote a song like "New Americana" at 30 rather than 20, it wouldn't work at all, but on an album like this, it fits right in with this "new adult" sort of perspective - my generation is so awesome, we're so open-minded, we'll show you adults how to do it right. It's this naivete that is simultaneously the album's weakest AND strongest quality.
John Mayer Inside Wants Out
As Inside Wants Out was released prior to Mayer's first true album, Room for Squares, it contains
many of the same tracks that appear on that album as well. However, it's evident this EP was
definitely a prototype as most of the tracks that appear here are perfected on Room for Squares.
Compared to the finalized RfS versions, the versions that appear on this EP are much slower,
sleepier, and less engaging.

With that said, there are a few tracks that don't appear on any of his later albums, and with the
exception of "Love Soon," which is somewhat dull, all of them are pretty great songs. What most
likely makes them stand out positively for me is that Mayer never recorded other versions of them,
so there's nothing else to compare them to.
Katharine McPhee Hysteria
Katy Perry One of the Boys

2.5 average
Big Time Rush Elevate
Lyrically, this album is a pretty substantial improvement over their first one, even though said lyrics are far from perfect. While the album as a whole isn't too much more interesting than their first one, it's a solid pop release that shows they'd grown in between albums.
Big Time Rush 24/Seven
Charlie Puth Nine Track Mind
Looking at the reviews on this site, I was expecting this album to suck majorly, but other than
the two abysmal singles, it's not a bad listen at all - I'd even rate it a 3 if those singles
weren't on the album. I will say that if you're looking for world class songwriting, you're not
going to find it here, but what Charlie does have going for him is solid presentation, and the
presentation alone is what elevates this album for me.
Coldplay A Head Full of Dreams
Katy Perry Teenage Dream
Katy Perry Prism
The first half of this album is inconsistent, while the second half is just dull. It's a shame, too, because there are several songs on here ("Dark Horse," "Ghost," and "By the Grace of God") that could easily belong on a 3.5 album. Overall, though, this album doesn't have any sort of edge or anything that makes Katy truly distinguishable from other artists out there.
Kesha Animal
While I'm not particularly fond of this album, I recognize that it doesn't aspire to be anything more than what it is. For what it's trying to achieve, I'd say it's pretty successful.
Kesha Warrior

2.0 poor
Big Time Rush B.T.R.
Passable presentation saves some really awful lyrics. The album is admittedly pretty catchy, but it falls short in its repetitiveness and lack of any creativity whatsoever.

1.0 awful
