A Forest of Stars Beware the Sword You Cannot See |
Nowadays it's difficult to release an album this long and yet so engaging. Their style is a big win: avantgarde black metal with a british steampunk vibe. Something you don't hear from your "average" avantgarde BM band, even if I guess they are big Arcturus fans. The bonus cd songs are of the same quality of the regular album, if not better. Plastic Patriarch Lynch Squad is amazing! |
Anthrax Persistence of Time |
Anvil Metal on Metal |
Arch/Matheos Winter Ethereal |
Had to raise by 0.5. This album is fucking brilliant. Can't stop listening to it. Wrath of the universe is just incredible. |

Black Sabbath Master of Reality |
Black Sabbath The Eternal Idol |
Casualties of Cool Casualties of Cool |
Chelsea Wolfe Hiss Spun |
Children Hard Times Hangin at the End of the World |
An unmistakably old style thrash metal album, but with a vintage twist. For some reason they sound odd, like they are coming from a parallel universe where thrash metal was already a thing in 1978. With catchy melodies and fabulous guitar work, this album is a truly hidden diamond. |
Code Mut |
Mut is a bold change of direction in more melodic territories for Code. If you don't mind trying something far from their usual formula, you will be rewarded with a convincing, gripping, black and desperate album. Perhaps my 2015 album of the year. |
Converge Bloodmoon: I |
Crimson Glory Crimson Glory |
D-A-D No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims |
This was among my first hard rock/metal albums and I still enjoy it today. They took a lot from ac/dc, but despite that they were able to sound personal. It's very easy to spot them in an ocean of copycat bands. On this album in particular they were nodding to a certain western movie vibe, which was really fitting with the overall atmosphere. Super fun album. |

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard K.G. |
KG is like a display of all the music styles the band has produced over the years, plus
something new (Intrasport), which is perhaps a hint of the things to come. The microtonal
stuff is giving once again a touch of freshness, even though they could have been more
adventurous and integrate it more deeply. However, the result is extremely catchy and fun,
despite not being the easiest of the records, so kudos to the boys for another awesome
achievement. |

Another excellent work from this finnish band. Style is somewhat always the same, and perhaps this may be their drawback in the long run, but the result on this one is brilliant, at least on par (if not slightly better) with their previous albums. |

Code Flyblown Prince |
To me Mut was a bold move in a direction which really suited the band well, but alas wasn't too appreciated. Flyblown prince is a move back to their avantgarde/prog/black metal formula found on Augur nox, and it's indeed a very good effort: immediate, nocturnal and sharp. |
Crimson Glory Strange and Beautiful |
D-A-D Riskin' It All |
Not as consistent as no fuel left for the
pilgrims, but still delivers a ton of fun.
Somewhat more cheerful than the previous
effort. |

Not as brilliant as their last two LPs, but still a heck of an album. It takes the path started with Gold and Silver, strips down a bit on the jam concept and delivers a more focused outcome. |
