This one is not as good as the first, but it grows on you with multiple listens. I've seen Icon For Hire live and Ariel's rapping is actually not awkward, it's surprisingly decent. I think it suffers on the album a bit from the overproduction you are talking about, but even that grows on you. This album is more experimental than the first and while that seems a bit unnecessary when the formula they had already found with their first disc was so good, I am hesitant to say anyone should not experiment with their sound. We have to remember that musicians are artists. Better they are trying something new than letting their art go stagnant and get boring. Hopefully their third album will find them more sure of themselves as to what works and what their strengths are. For now though, this album is still pretty good.
