This is their only LP to my knowledge but they're one of the few bands that nailed it right out of the gate. Two of the tracks got some airplay when 001 came out - "Beautiful" and "Level On the Inside." This is rock music for grownups and the themes throughout are relatable and serious without being trite. Hard to find this mix of rock and thoughtful lyrics, especially when it's done this well. The Who Who's NextWall Of Voodoo Call Of The WestRidgway on keys and harp; The inimitable Marc Moreland on guitar; Nanini's manic beats and the amazing Chas T. Gray. This is Stan Ridgway at his cynical, biting best. This record sounded like nothing else out there (well, except for Dark Continent, lol). These guys were so far ahead of their time that they nearly went unnoticed by the public at large. Mexican Radio was the big hit and it was probably the "lightest fare" on the whole record. So, classic lineup + classic lyrics and music = classic album. Pretty simple. I think Rolling Stone gave this two stars when it came out. So much for "professional" critics... 4.5 superbThe Who The Who by NumbersWall Of Voodoo Dark Continent
