If you're listening to it chronologically, it really lacks a flow, from one song to the next; which can make it feel disjointed and lack immediacy of previous albums. However, that's okay with me because each track stands on its own as a monumental memorial of their "art" (with minor exception to Serein and one other that slips my mind..). It's not a perfect Katatonia album and only time will truly tell how it stands next to their extensive back catalogue. I think the main observation and impression with me here on Fall Of Hearts is the musicianship, production/mix and songwriting in general. They have truly mastered their own craft at this point - what will be REALLY interesting is where they go after this. The mix and instrumentation are excellent (esp THE BASS); but it's just them "coasting along"(?) and trying to be overtly experimental. The song, "Full Moon Shoals" (apparently their attempt at a radio-hit, ballad) is beyond cringe-worthy. After 3 full listens of the entire record, I just find myself asking.. "why would I listen to this when I could listen to anything from their mostly solid back catalogue?!". My favorite "newer" album by them is probably "The Panic Broadcast" from 2010; HOWEVER, everything they've released since then has been pretty goddamn solid IMO.
