| Evergrey fans make no sense to me. Or maybe I'm the weird one, but this band absolutely peaked with the Hymns for the Broken trilogy culminating with Escape of the Phoenix. Phoenix was heavy in a way the band hadn't been since Recreation Day. Then they got bored. I'm sorry I don't care if they're respected musicians and songwriters; A Heartless Portrait was boring, and Theories of Emptiness was just devoid of energy. Some people have compared it to The Glorious Collision and I see that comparison. Sound wise it sounds like it could have been released between Glorious Collision and Hymns for the Broken. Plenty of people shit on Glorious Collision, and granted the production on it is ass, but it had some solid songwriting, certainly compared to Torn. This is like the definition of a 4/5 for me. Nothing special, but very entertaining, and something resembling a return to form after their worst album since Torn. |

| The fact that so early in it's career a band could write a third album with at least one 20+ minute epic is incredible. Considering they went for the same format as Close to the Edge track listing wise you knew this would be heavily compared with it and for good reason. It's not quite as good as Close to the Edge , but if we judged everything based on that comparison very few albums would ever get good ratings. |

| Fly From Here is undoubtably a mixed bag, the title track/epic is phenomenal featuring some great parts and one of their catchiest melodies. The rest however isn't so great, Life on a Film Set is quite lame and the rest is only decent besides the final track Into the Storm which is very good. |
