| Craig Wedren Wand |
| A strange, experimental, and diverse release from Shudder To Think's frontman Craig Wedren. What is essentially a collection of art rock and experimental pop indulgences and ideas, this album creates a unique world and flow that really puts you into the artistic mind of Wedren. What you'll hear ranges from soft-ambient ballads, to synth pop indulgences, to heavy rockers and riffage, and whatever you may find in between, with an often disturbing yet infectious after-effect. Definitely an overlooked mini "masterpiece," though I could really only see this being enjoyed by some. |
| David Bowie Blackstar |
| The very real experience of being face to face with your own mortality, staring directly into the void, understanding your existence is coming to an end. And then to incapsulate that, and translate it into art for others to veer into and consume. Not only that, but having said art be musically superb, forward thinking, and impactful. Perhaps a one of a kind moment in modern music history. |
| Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory |
| Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence |
| The way Dream Theater pushed the envelope of what prog-metal could be in the early 2000's is still forward thinking and more ambitious than what you're seeing from most prog-metal acts in 2024. It's more than just making a 90+ minute album, it's more than just slapping a 42 minute song on it and calling in "pRoG." It's creating a cohesive experience that challenges you and pulls you in, and captivates you to listen and be taken on a (what is often uncharacteristic for the genre) genuinely thought provoking journey. rSoapbox aside, this is an incredibly creative release from what can easily turn into a stagnated genre. Each of this album's 6 tracks, of which 5 are at least 10 minutes in length, offer a fairly different sound palette. Blah blah blah, at this point I should just write an entire review I guess. |

| Probably my favorite jazz-fusion-y album of all time. Pure musical bliss. I?d say the only weak portion are the two seemingly brief and out of place djenty cuts near the beginning. Albums flows smooth as butter after that |
| Toby Fox Undertale OST |
| Video game music... An odd genre that contains some of the catchiest and most detailed music ever penned, and yet is almost never talked about in larger conversations about music as an artform, and as a whole. For any skeptics, I can assure you that Toby Fox's "Undertale" OST transcends that of just "music for a video game," and indeed has some of the most profoundly expert executions of characterization, instrumentation, use of leitmotif, and melody writing you can find in an original soundtrack of any kind. That is to say that the experience is still greatly enhanced by playing the game and being familiar with its characters, as well as the context of each track, but this is one of few soundtracks I find myself listening to on its own for the genuine experience. |

Kinda continues the 'heavier coma ecliptic' sound like 1 did, but way more experimental and definitely a lot of unpredictable
moments. Very much where Id hoped the sound would go after the cliffhanger of 1. Listening to both albums together is
going to be sick
Edit: however nothing about this merited the secondary release. It isn't the biggest deal (just make a playlist with both
albums together) but it just messes with the expectations that might come with 2 separate releases |

| Motoi Sakuraba and Yuka Kitamura Dark Souls III OST |
This OST is certainly well-written and composed, and undeniably epic while playing the game.
But I have to echo Billy's sentiment by challenging any fan of this OST to even hum a single
melody from this soundtrack. Not that catchy melodies are everything when judging an OST,
but think about DS1 bosses like Sif, Gwyn, Gaping Dragon, and how defined they are by their
eponymous tracks and melodies. There's SO much character in those boss themes. Now, try to
think about what "defines" Vordt's theme versus Demon Princes from a characterization
perspective. rTLDR; good while it's on but forgettable |

| It's really hard to compare this to his other works because it is a bit of a departure from his usual style... I imagine this will get some exaggerated responses from both sides of the spectrum because of that. All in all, this is yet another consistent release of Steven Wilson excellency, and it will still satisfy fans even if it is some of his most divisive work. |

| Blackfield For The Music |
Actually a nicely produced, sweet and heartfelt alt-pop album, given how far
removed it is from Blackfield's origins. Aviv's awkward lyrics and delivery remain a
constant hinderance from something greater, and there are a couple questionable moments
for sure (what is that autotune on Aviv's voice? jesus), but they never overstay their
welcome before some nice orchestral flutters and surprising chord changes save the day. |

| People complaining about the amount of soft songs vs. heavy songs should just take the album for what it is. This is just after one listen, but it works like a movie, a STORY, with ups and downs, buildups, climaxes, cooldowns, and development that can develop over songs, over the course of the album. It's such a rewarding experience. |

Claustrophobic noise production as an artistic choice - why does it feel like a gimmick on this album, while on After The
Magic it felt far more natural? It leans so heavily on it, nearly to the point of parody. There?s some incredibly solid music
in here though. Somewhere. |
