It feels like Circa was trying to emulate the sound and aesthetics of their earlier work, which would be OK if they were still inspired as they were in the past. But I think the band has moved on, as musicians always do. As a consequence, this album feels like absentminded musings of a time long past. They aren't in touch with the emotions that fueled earlier work. The music is boring, indulgent, and unintentional. It's a mix of what we've already heard haphazardly arranged. I haven't given the album much time, however, so my impression could be off. Maybe this album is new territory meticulously crafted together. It doesn't sound that way--shame. Maybe I'm just getting old and cynical. Lyrically, the album is a joke. At first I thought they were ironic, parodying trite political, economic, and social views. Then I realized there was no punchline. God dammit.
