Youth Lagoon The Year of Hibernation
It's a fun little album with some nice songs, 17 for example. But in my opinion it does not work good as an album because it lacks diversity. The specific style of the sound and the similar song structure of each song feels annoying when coming to the end of the record.
The National Boxer Live in Brussels
I like this version more than the studio version. The main reason for that is Matt's voice. On the original record it sounds much rougher, which I don't like. Also, they're obviously very good live.
The National Boxer
The National at the peak of their songwriting! Also very well balanced between ballads and faster paced tracks. As with most National records this again features excellent drumming and at times catchy intelligent lyrics. A great example of this is the opening line of Green Gloves. One complaint I have with this album is the very rough sounding voice of Matt Berninger. I think that on following records his voice improves greatly.
Midlake The Trials of Van Occupanther
Man, I really love this album. It's super consistent, the only song that I would cut from the tracklist is In this Camp. Otherwise we have top material here, for example Van Occupanther and Branches are amazing. What I also like are the lyrical themes of life in simpler times. Especially Bandits stands out lyrically in my opinion.
Deerhunter Halcyon Digest
Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights
Absolutely incredible album, probaply my favourite debut ever. Every single track on here is amazing. One of the things I like about this is record is how balanced instruments and vocals are. Paul's voice is rather monotone, so it allows the guitar, bass and drums to take the spotlight. But despite the vocals sounding monotone, they still convey emotions, for example through repetitions of certain lines. These repetitions also make the lyrics really catchy at times. What else shines here are the basslines. Since the guitars mostly occupy the higher frequency spectrum, you can often hear the bass very clearly.
Sharon Van Etten Epic
One of her best projects. Instrumentally simple, but heart-wrenching storytelling and songwriting
at Sharon's peak.
