Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
A heavy metal classic with some of the best songs in the genre. The second half is weaker (The Warning in particular has a bit too much guitar wankery on it) but overall this is an essential album for fans of metal.

Nirvana Bleach
'Bleach' has some great moments and has an appealing innocence about it as the band sound like
they are enjoying themselves. However aside from some of the songs in the albums first half they
sound like a patchwork band formed from all of their underground influences and are lacking any
unique identity.

Deftones White Pony
'White Pony' mixes heaviness with ethereal atmospherics creating a sound that envelops the listener in its dark yet oddly seductive world. This is a far cry from the amateurish nu-metal of adrenaline and is unique even within the diverse discography of Deftones.

Deftones Around the Fur
One of the most sinister nu-metal albums of all time and a huge leap forward for Deftones following the rather average 'Adrenaline'. They started to inject atmospheric shoegazer influences into their sound on this album which adds dynamics to the metallic guitar sound. This is complemented by Chino's much improved vocal performance and his vague, haunting lyrics.

Deftones Adrenaline
Instrumentally this album is far more interesting than the majority of the nu-metal crowd. However, considering what the Deftones would become it feels somewhat average and Chino's lyrics are bogged down by typical nu-metal immaturity.

Septicflesh Communion
Was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I have been doing. The orchestral elements add drama
and tension to the music rather than weighing it down with pomposity and the melodies are
incredible. Had the raise the score as it keeps getting better with each listen.

The Lion's Daughter Existence Is Horror
Some tasty blackened sludge filled with haunting tremolo and filthy riffage. Nothing overly original here but still an enjoyable listen that manages to sink its ghastly tentacles under your skin.
