Scar Symmetry lose much of their luscious melodies in exchange for a more mechanized and commanding sound. The result is an occasionally uneven album but one that manages to improve over its predecessor thanks to the band taking an extra step with their stylistic approach.

On paper there's not much different about this album than any of the bands others, but dangit if I can't remember a single song except for "The Kaleidoscopic God". All the ingredients for a Gothenburg album are here, but maybe that's the problem. I prefer the more invigorating debut or the more schizophrenic follow-up to this.

Their best album with no single song straying even a little from perfection. A trademark release for the "new melodeath" trend, there is not so much as a single mischosen riff or vocal line on this album.

Definitely one of the best albums that Melodic Death Metal has to offer, the variety of vocal styles, the well written riffs and solos and the actually good lyrics (Good lyrics? In metal? Yes, it is possible) make it quite a good album. Best songs of this album are, in my opinion: The Illusionist, Dreaming 24/7, The Kaleidoscopic God and Retalitator, but seriously, just listen to the whole damn thing. Recommended album.

Bit of foot-in-mouth from my last soundoff, but I've re-evaluated this band's sound. There is a sense of improvement on parts of the follow up, 'Pitch Black Progress'. There are hints that they're moving in the right direction (though their latest doesn't seem to hold true to that) and unfortunately again the album is made by Christians vocals, which are now gone from the band, and from some stunning duel guitar work.

We all Soilwork, and those who know Soilwork should know of Scar Symmetry. Fancy name but I have to be honest with you; this is a perfect Soilwork clone. Both vocally and musically, Scar Symmetry delivers the same stuff as Soilwork. At times the tracks gets really bad ass but in flick of an eye the track gets soft as a baby's ass. But still, the band knows how to create better music than Soilwork. Abstracted, Oscillation Point and The Kaleidoscopic God are some really good tracks that you should listen to. Melodies, intensiveness, creativity and force are what you get from Pitch Black Progress, but the music is just so generic for the genre.

Okay. The minute I heard this band, they instantly became a favourite of mine. 'Pitch Black Progress' has been playing wherever I go for the last 10 months or so and I have never gotten bored of it. Fantastic use of singing and screaming, well-placed solos that are by far some of the most tasteful and melodic measures of music I've heard to date, the drumming is absolutely superb and the use of subtle keyboards has just overall made me fall in love with this album. I can't stress this band's talent and songwriting skills enough to satisfy my hunger for this album. Truly an amazing release. I would definitely recommend it to ANYONE who likes metal!
