With this being a demo and their first release, it obviously somewhat rough around the edges. Especially production of the vocals and the productions were somewhat irksome to me. However, there is still much to enhoy here. The riffs are great and quite varied already, some really cool tones on here. I really like the clean guitar melodies that pop up once in a while. Ultimately, while not refined yet, this release clearly shows the talent of these individuals

As a record in a vacuum this is probably not something I'd listen to very often. But for a 1988 demo it is really impressive. While the prod is, well, what you'd expect it to be, the guitar tones - and not only the fuzzy ones but also the cleaner on say 4-5 - are really cool, and there are bm sections that are genuinely nice Darkthrone material. They just did so much more of that good stuff later on that it doesn't make too much sense to jam this except for the historical aspect, but they sure offered a promising demo, albeit with its quirks like some of the vocal fx experimentations on 3 for example. Sweet stuff. 3.1

Darkthrone's first demos are extremely underrated. As this one being their first, it is pretty good. They definitely experimented a lot on this one where there was some thrash, death, and black metal elements, but they mostly had an old doom metal sound on this demo (a sound a little like Black Sabbath). Also, what is incredible about this demo is that while they were experimenting with all these different genres, they still maintained an original sound.
