Not their best release (s/t is where it's @) but it's anthemic, fast and kinda melodic hardcore. While overall I prefer the enraged amateurism of their first recordings, some tracks are pure bangers ("Cashing In" might be their best track). This is their last one, before MacKaye would go on with Embrace and Fugazi. Historically, this is thus an important record, but musically it's not making me pp ahrd like it did when I was 17. Go listen to Nervous Breakdown if you only wanna spend five minutes to understand what hardcore is.

Minor Threat's album, Out of Step, is one of iconic status, but it's really not all that great, or at least it doesn't hold up as well. I find it to be very repetitive, and a bit of a chore to listen to. While on it's surface it seems like a basic hardcore album with shorter songs, but there actually is some solid musicianship present, I just feel like you really have to concentrate to find them. The production is underwhelming for the most part, and I'm personally not a big fan of the Straight Edge lyrical content. Betray is one of my all time favorite punk songs, but it's all downhill from there. Even classic tracks like Think Again and Look Back and Laugh might have epic opening riffs, the songs seem to loose focus. There is nothing really outright bad on here (as can be found on many Fugazi albums), it's jut not that interesting of an album. Maybe Ian should have smoked a little something.

Probably one of punk's greatest releases, you can tell that thrash metal bands would be influenced by this, I mean, hardcore punk is part of thrash's origins and this is an excellent example of it. Because the album is only 21 minutes long, the album's pretty inexpensive and goes by real quick after you listen to the whole album. This maybe Minor Threat's only studio album, but its influence will not go away. If the album weren't so damn short, this would be a 5. Highlights: Betray, It Follows, Look, Back, and Laugh, Out of Step, Cashing In
