This album is little more than bland pop punk. The vocals are some of the most boring performances I've ever heard, and their so called post-punk influence appears in a couple of song's vocal melodies. Overall a boring album with a few nice songs here and there (Devotion and Desire is very very good), but nothing here should make you want to buy this album.

They don't receive the same amount of overwhelming praise or recognition as Taking Back Sunday or Brand New, but as the group showcases on their self-titled album, Bayside can crack open a series of endless possibilities in such a regard. Anthony Raneri's quavering voice has that strong emotion connected to it, and rarely does he ever create a misstep. Bayside is an entirely amusing pop punk kraken with all the melodies and naturally-gifted musicianship that not even the most harsh of this genre's detractors would reject.

On their self-titled 2nd LP, Bayside take a huge step up from their debut. Subtly polishing up their sound while also retaining the raw edge, the Long Island quartet likewise tone down their morbidly self-loathing lyrics without eradicating their passion, relatability & descriptiveness. More importantly, 'Bayside' brings the hooks, with a succession of memorable sing-alongs & guitar lines that are extremely well-crafted to enhance lasting value. Sure, it's front-loaded, but that is because the 1st half is flawless! Recommended Tracks: Blame It On Bad Luck, Devotion and Desire, Montauk, Tortures of the Damned & They Looked Like Strong Hands.
