As lazily melodious as it is meticulously sprawling, 'Slanted' remains the absolute peak of indie rock: song after song that proves Dylan's paradox that the best way to connect with a disillusioned generation is to stop making sense.

Superb. Excellent from start to finish and i mean in every way, from enigmatic lyrics with just a tinge of otherworldlyness to intentionally fuzzy production, and uncanny pop writing sensibility that make each song more catchy than the last, Slanted and Enchanted is the ultimate album by the biggest band noone has heard of. The only thing holding it back from a perfect score are some admittedly weak songs, namely chelseas little wrists and two states, but these are easily overlooked when you consider the wealth of enjoyable music to be found. Reccomended to any indie rock fan who somehow hasn't already heard it

Do you like The Pixies? Silly question really. Pavement are a slacker alternative band from the 90’s who do the short, catchy, timeless and bloody odd in much the same way as Doolittle. The one difference is this album is honestly better in my opinion, which is no mean feat considering how often Doolittle crops up on best ever lists.
It’s warm and fuzzy throughout, “Summer Babe (Winter Version)” is slow and mellow with a dizzy, spastic solo at the end, breaking out into fun, nonsense melodies. Melodies and nonsense are recurring themes; “Trigger Cut” sees the band sing “sha-na-na” and don’t get me started on “Conduit For Sale!”, which is some kind of history rap with panicked chorus.
On other tracks the album absolutely wears it’s heart on its sleeve, “Here” and “Zurich is Stained” are spacious laments, very much for the slacker.
Throughout the bass is fuzzy and you can hear the drummer have a great time as the melodies grow bigger; on “Lorretta’s Scars” the beat is certain to move anyone. This is a through and through a lo-fi marvel, but the album quality is very good unlike, say; Dinosaur Jnr.
Like Doolittle every song is a hit, you wish there was more of it and whoever you are there is no way you cannot love this beauty.

Amazing album that influenced lo-fi and indie rock. Starting off very strong with Summer Babe and Trigger Cut/Wounded Kite At: 17. Sprinkled with playful songs such as "Conduit For Sale", "Chelsey's Little Wrists", "Two States"and "Fame Throwa". Some slower serious song "In the Mouth of a Desert", "Zurich is Stained", "Here", "Our Singer". This album would be a bit better without the amaeturish songs, but this is when Pavement was at an amateur stage...their first record. Just a good album overall, although the last third slumps a little. Get this along side their sister album "Crooked, Rain Crooked Rain". This is definitely a strong 9.

A mix of great(Summerbabe), Good(Two States), average(No Life Singed Her) and funky(Conduit for Sale!, Fame Throwa). Not the best album of all time, but it's got its moments of glory.

I discovered this incredibly late only because Spin magazine rated this the best indie album ever (note: don't read spin, saw a news link online and I don't necessarily agree with this... it's just how it is). After hearing this once I was pissed because all the cd did was make me agree that Spin was dilution of Rolling Stone (full of themselves) but after a couple more spins (excuse the pun) the world that existed inside this band poured into my skull. The poetry was second or another instrument through this rough and clunky journey into home-made beauty. Listen to these tracks and listen over again because this cd and all the intricacies naturally balanced throughout make you want to start your own band and make people ask: can we treat it like an oil well? Because Pavement is underground and out of sight. Corny enough? it should be.
