A beautiful record weaving ambient and post-rock with some modern classical moments. It's mellow, but the sheer beauty and delicacy make this babe a soothing listen.

A bit on the challenging side by Hammock's standards. There seems to be a bit more dissonance between tracks than previous affairs, which would continue into their popular follow-up, Departure Songs. Chasing After Shadows...may not have the ebb and flow of its predecessors, so to speak, but it does retain the ponderous nature that Kenotic was more particular towards (and successful at).

This 4 is for the newly released deluxe edition, which has the Outtakes EP and several extra rtracks incorporated. It really does improve it significantly, 'Geminis In The Country', r'From the Dust...We Ran to Greet the Dawn','Still Secrets Remaining' and 'Tunings' are rall as good as the best tracks here. 110 min of top quality music means this is easily rcomparable with Departure Songs as the best thing they've done.

On Chasing After Shadows..., Hammock combine the best elements of their previous releases to create yet another classic. It is as uplifting as Kenotic and includes all the essential post-rock material that can be found on Raising Your Voice.... They even find themselves adding unique material not heard on (or barely heard on) previous records. A good example of this might be the orchestral sound on tracks such as "In the Nothing of a Night" and "Little Fly / Mouchette." In addition, Marc Byrd's vocals are the best they have ever been. All things considered, this album is a true post-rock classic.
