Though I love 'Soulside Journey' and the earlier stuff from them... I really dig the direction they have been going in the past few records. The riffs on this record are catchy as ever and the vocals ( though a bit cheesy at times)make the songs sound really epic. I've been humming the chorus to the title track all day! I would highly recommend picking this disk up!

Seemed really weird on the first listen, but this album is basically a tribute to the 80's.
Paying homage to Motorhead, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Manilla Road & the like. Yet, it's original in it's delivery and performance. Turned out to be a really awesome listen overall, there's a lot of diversity within the album itself. It's a mixture of NWOBHM & Black Metal. Surely one of my top picks for 2010.

Less bad than its two predecessors, but still not an album I'd see myself jamming ever again. It's true there are some good riffs in this kind of heavy metal/beer metal with a more aggressive tone style, and the song intros are often fun. The middle of the album was also encouraging as 4 and 5 despite their flaws are kind of fun. But there are too many flaws in the rest of the album to compensate. 1 starts off making me want to jam heavy metal from the old days instead, not something purposefully out of date (fight me). And then the vocals just ruin most tracks, to varying degrees. Plus there are frank construction errors, peaking on the absolutely terrible conclusion to 7 where, unless it's a spotify bug, the track fades out (yuck), then come back on its intro riff suddenly (which made me think I had looped it accidentally), then fades out again. By 6 the alb really got me tired tbh. 8 is kind of fun for a minute before the vocals break it, and 9 starts off frankly in a (badly) comical way but does feature some good riffs before it gets bnoring. Ok I suppose but just not an album for me. 2.5

2010 was the year black'n'roll could have exploded. Kvelertak discharged their own brand on the scene, but they weren't the only band to fuse black metal and punk. Legends Fenriz and Nocturno Culto chose to incorporate speed metal and crust punk into their black metal aesthetic, resulting in an album embracing the latter genre's crass production with epic solis and crust rhythm sections. A dirty record that is incredibly consistent, yet never manages to particularly stand out. And some vocals were kinda grating. riffz are tasty tho m/

"Circle the Wagons" enters the discography of Darkthrone as another unsuccessful attempt to enter Punk with quality and relevancy. Maybe i need to take a more diverse look at the material that covers other genres from them. My journeys on these albums have not been very good, always thinking that the identity crisis has taken over the band.

The new direction is back, and strong as it's ever been. Darkthrone has struck the chord with me that most black metal bands normally fail to do, in fact calling this album black metal is truly not the case. As it more at times resemble an old Megadeth record, or old Crowbar album. An open mind can do wonders, if you have one.
