This band is more on the sludge and post metal side maybe, idk. And it has some hardcore reminescents, so yeah the metalcore tag would fit if this wasn't so dense. There's also a lot of death metal (more in here than Mire) pulling us back to Opeth mid era, and of course black metal aspects all over the place (blast beats and high pitch vocals). And now how do they put all these in one single vibe/ ID is the most impressive. Other point is how they still make it to be this emotional and pure/genuine is beyond my reach and rare as fuck nowdays. Stay tuned on Conjurer mates!

Atmospheric/post-metalcore is by far the worst plague to hit the British Isles since the Black Death, and after infecting Venom Prison and worsening its grip on Rolo Tomassi this year, it has struck again to create another tedious "opus" with all the vitality and charisma of a parsnip. It's not a bad album by any means, just painfully similar to, well, everything else to come from this scene this year, and why this site constantly fawns over this subgenre is entirely baffling to me, in the same way that it is baffling that it fawns over professional anaesthetists (and blight upon the genre of "sludge metal") Cult of Luna. These musicians are competent... and that is it. All appeals to emotion feel calculated, all songs homogenous. Especially disappointing given how entertaining Curse These Metal Hands was. Oh well.

Conjurer return to haunt me after a thrilling EP, a cacophonous album, and a surprise collaboration, with this album of epic proportions and bludgeoning instrumentation.

Continuing the formula deployed on 2018's Mire, Conjurer fuses everything extreme metal together: sludge, black, hardcore, basically everything that falls under the post-metalcore umbrella, with doom making a striking apparition. Pathos is an aesthetic tour de force, coupled with songwriting that definitely establishes Conjurer as a major extreme metal actor.
