3.1 good | Erwann S. STAFF | September 2nd 21 | Consistently pretty and expansive, How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last? nevertheless falters in proposing few variations within its chamber popfolktronica formula.

3.0 good | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | October 14th 21 | Admittedly I was coming into this with a sour and doubtful attitude. After all, Justin Vernon's all-out mainstream circlejerk project doesn't sound particularly appealing. I was certainly not left impressed by most of it, but still was pleasantly surprised. A lot of the songs flow nicely and the tunes are more often than not catchy and pleasant on the ear. Can't say it's a very intriguing release, though. Had it not had the star power behind it, I doubt I'd give it a second thought.

2.0 poor | ajcollins15 | September 1st 21 | This album had so much potential to be great. Two of the best minds in indie folk right now coming together on their sophomore effort to make a powerful and moving indie folk and chamber pop album. However, this album is drenched in its own irony by being extremely one-dimensional, extremely boring for most of the middle parts, and a lack of use with the wide range of great features. There are some decent tracks littered throughout the project, but mostly this album is a phoned-in showing of why indie folk hasn?t been great this decade.

4.0 excellent | Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | August 30th 21 | Plenty more expansive than the debut, with a longer track list than either The National or Bon Iver have done before. I wish there was more Justin singing as opposed to having so many features akin to a Gorillaz album. Maybe not a very interesting take, but I like this about the same as the debut from 2018. The ratio of forgettable filler to greatness is around the same for both, this just has more of everything. Might slightly prefer this just for the sheer variety, whereas the debut was more uniform. Like with that one, I heard the whole album at once without having listened to any pre-release singles before, which are among the highlights. Favs are "Latter Days," "Phoenix," "Ghost of Cincinnati," "Mimi," "Magnolia," and "Brycie."
