Is this even the same band? It's amazing how much they have evolved, this is nothing like their later material but it's still great. This is some of the rawest black metal I've ever heard and it's amazing.
Edit: This album is honestly almost too raw, on first listens it was okay but everything is really compressed thanks to the one dimensional recording. It's a shame that the production is so bad because honestly the music is amazing.

Despite having some of the worst production of early Norwegian black metal, this demo clearly shows that Enslaved were already ahead of their peers in terms of experimentation and songwriting ability. Considering that main composer Ivar Bjornson was only 15 at the time of recording makes this an even more impressive feat.

Apart from the occasional venture into extreme music genres like harsh noise, I do prefer my ears caressed instead of tortured. So while it is to be expected that a demo would have terrible sound quality, especially for a black metal band, these songs deserve better production than what they've gotten on here. There is in fact some great material on this demo, as you might expect from the young band that would come out with Vikingligr Veldi just two years later. This is certainly an interesting listen and it's definitely an important milestone for the band, but I'd rather not return to it any time soon.
